[Feature] Cursor coordinates lost on paste mode

• I understand that each report must only contain one request. Other requests must get their own report.

The Problem

Currently, when I activate paste mode the green cursor is not fixed. Depending on camera position, It is difficult to get it to line up with the original position because the mouse has already moved it. If I tab to 2d the cursor has already moved and I don't know the original coordinates for Y even if I line it up with X,Z.

Feature Description

Default on paste mode should be to place the green cursor in same position as the clipboard and not move with mouse so that coordinates are preserved. Only after clicking the mouse should it start moving.

Alternatives

I would probably have to record the coordinates of the cursor before pasting so I could type them back in.

This would make it more confusing to use if you wanted to

1. paste somewhere else in the world
2. paste into a different dimension
3. paste into a different world

It would be confusing that the thing you want to paste is not visible.
A clone feature like MCEdit had would be better for your use case.
Amulet does not currently have a feature like that.

#2) do you mean toggle from 2d to 3d? or is 'dimension' something else? Pasting automatically puts us into 3d mode, right?

#1) is what I'm talking about. The thing I want to paste is more visible with my suggestion. It's on top of the clipboard until I explicitly click to move it or use other means to move it (e.g. move buttons and WASD). It's gray-greenish. It's in the same place I just selected that was formerly white. It turns green when moved.

Maybe a different color would be good when the paste cursor is on top of the clipboard. (I'll open another feature for that as the white and green blend into a gray that is almost the same as the white--at least on my system.)

Currently the cursor placement is seemingly random based on my mouse skipping around the screen. I have never had the green cursor placed 'by default' somewhere useful because it's trying to follow my mouse which is busy clicking on other things in the interface. If it were to be on top of the clipboard we would all know where it is.

Does the paste cursor have memory in some situations (e.g. paste into other world?) Maybe that's what I'm missing. I'm approaching this from pasting for the first time from a local copy. The logical place to put the paste cursor is on top of the clipboard so that we know exactly where it is. If I want to move it with the mouse I click and move.

On subsequent paste operations does the cursor remain where it was so that I can continue pasting in that area? If so, perhaps my suggestion on applies to the first paste.

Or does the paste from a different world start the cursor in a location based on that other world?

I have created a fork and wired up a number of user interface changes. We may not want to merge it but it is useful as a demo of what I'm trying to accomplish. It's at https://github.com/jtmoree-github-com/Amulet-Map-Editor/tree/new_interface

This issue is addressed in that code by leaving the cursor stationary on entering paste mode. Clicking works as it does now to start and stop moving it.

The paste tool is used when copying and pasting and when importing a structure from a file.
When you paste/import, the structure is attached to the cursor. When you click, the position is locked.
You can click and hold the move button then press the movement keys to move the pasted structure relative to the camera for finer movement.

I agree there is a use case for placing the structure by default in the same place as you copied it from but that would need to be a different button. Perhaps a clone button.
When importing a structure file, pressing ctrl+v in a different part of the world or in a different world, the original location is usually wrong and would be confusing.

I agree that there are some logistics to work out. I have not personally moved items from world to world yet so will need to experiment with that. One thing I did realize is that there are multiple aspects to 'getting lost'. In my experimental rewrite I mapped a few hotkeys

• ctrl+F (find cursor by teleporting camera there)
• shfit+ctrl+F (move cursor to camera)
• T (toggle move camera/cursors with keyboard)

Ctrl+G is still teleport camera to coordinates.
