Add: Unit tests

Hello,
I found your repository very intresting.
The issue is that the project has no coverage for tests at all.
Tests are safety net for contributors (and you!) and since your project has multiple stages, changes in one stages might silently break other stages.
I propose add of Unit tests (tests/) to your repository.
I'd love to put this together if you are open to it and I will make sure to keep the test lightweight and fast.
Let me know how does this sounds or if you have any preferences...
