Description

Prepare azure-search-documents version 12.1.0 (Unreleased) for the Azure Search data-plane 2026-10-01 GA API.

The specification changes are in Azure/azure-rest-api-specs#46315. Generation is pinned to commit 198fc02e732431e0fb35832cb9f004c79da0f59e and explicitly targets 2026-10-01.

Regenerate the GA API surface and make SearchServiceVersion.V2026_10_01 the default while retaining supported older GA versions.
Adapt the native SearchCustomizations.java architecture layer, including regeneration-safe typed knowledge-resource conveniences and retrieval streaming overloads.
Retain features promoted to GA, including knowledge bases, typed retrieval streaming, and file knowledge sources. Add file-capacity metadata and Content Understanding model configuration.
Remove specification-excluded preview source kinds, configuration, models, and authorization parameters. Rename the retrieval token limit to maxOutputSizeInTokens.
Update samples, regression tests, README migration guidance, changelog, and centralized version metadata.

The breaking-change checklist item below is intentionally unchecked: this PR removes APIs from the preceding 12.1.0 beta releases. API compatibility against the published GA version 12.0.2 passes.

Full package verification and freshly packaged API compatibility analysis:

Passed: 949 tests, zero failures/errors, 102 skipped; JavaDoc and source packaging, Checkstyle, SpotBugs, code-snippet verification, Spotless, coverage thresholds, and Revapi compatibility against 12.0.2.

Final targeted GA wire-format and typed-streaming regressions:

Passed: 27 tests, zero failures/errors/skips, and zero Checkstyle violations.

Existing recordings and assets.json are unchanged. Playback-only normalization handles the exact prior API-version difference and the removed recorded purviewEnabled: false property. Independent mock HTTP tests verify the actual GA API version on all eight clients and verify that GA index updates omit the excluded property. Existing request-matcher behavior is preserved.

Live Azure tests were not run.

Remove the obsolete preview encryption-key constructor and its customization, align the indexed SQL reference getter with getDocumentUrl, and cover constructor and JSON behavior with regression tests. Expose response-completion status codes as nullable Integer values and remove the numeric wrapper while preserving numeric JSON and unknown codes. Add header-only query-source authorization to retrieval options across sync, async, streaming, and typed-response paths. Preserve existing overloads and request options; explicit authorization takes precedence over the option. Keep the changes regeneration-safe, document the behavior, and add regression coverage without changing the October 2026 GA specification pin.
