Summary

Next parity batch. Collects work until the maintainer says stop.

  • Azure App Service deployment slots (web apps + function apps): slot CRUD with per-slot containers and <app>-<slot> hostnames, sticky settings (slotConfigNames), swap and swap-with-preview (applySlotConfig/resetSlotConfig), slotsdiffs, per-tier slot limits.
  • GCP Cloud Datastore (new service, port 8143, DATASTORE_EMULATOR_HOST): Lookup, RunQuery (structured + GQL), aggregations, transactions with optimistic concurrency, AllocateIds/ReserveIds, admin index API with documented composite-index enforcement.
  • In progress: OCI Queue + Notifications services; dashboard pages for Datastore, OCI Core and App Service.

Test plan

  • go build ./..., tidy, persistence + guards, go test ./internal/app/ -short
  • go test -race gcpdatastore, azurearm, azurefunctions
  • task lint-changed, task docs
  • CI

Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review 70d3b

Several data-integrity and concurrency concerns remain open. Restored Lambda versions backed by S3 can lose their code location, and Datastore transactions and the Azure and ECS paths have unresolved race conditions. These should be resolved or explicitly accepted before merge.

Major · Use s.dpName() for both data-plane function lookups. · rp_web_functions.go:127

services/azurearm/rp_web_functions.go:127
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Use s.dpName() for both data-plane function lookups.

For a slot request, lockedApp returns the slot record, but ListFunctions and the shared function helper pass s.Name to p.dataPlane.Functions. This can query the production app and return production functions for the slot. The helper also feeds the function key operations.

Suggested fix
-	fns, err := p.dataPlane.Functions(ctx, s.Name)
+	fns, err := p.dataPlane.Functions(ctx, s.dpName())

Apply the same change in function.

Update both data-plane function lookups in ListFunctions and the shared function
helper to pass s.dpName() instead of s.Name, so slot requests query the slot’s
functions.

232-232: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Low value

Replace the slot string literals with named constants.

Three literals encode slot naming rules. "-" builds the hostname label at Line 232. "__" builds the Kudu username at Line 474. "Production" is the default slot name at Line 547. The "-" and "__" rules are also asserted in tests and in internal/app/azureappservice_slots_sdk_test.go. A named constant keeps these rules in one place and shows where the backend and the ARM layer must agree.

+const (

+	slotUserSep        = "__"

+	return a.Name + slotLabelSep + a.Slot
@@
-		user += "__" + a.Slot
+		user += slotUserSep + a.Slot

+		return productionSlotName

As per coding guidelines: "named constants instead of magic strings".

Replace the slot naming literals in the hostname construction using a.Name and
a.Slot, Kudu username construction, and default-slot return path with named
constants. Reuse the constants wherever those same rules are asserted or applied

Move the per-row distinct key build into a helper to remove the break.

The inner loop uses break with a complete flag. The repository guidelines forbid break and require a helper with an early return. Put the key build in a helper that returns (string, bool). The same pattern appears in gql.go at lines 317, 483, 516, 834 and 967.

♻️ Proposed refactor
 	for _, r := range rows {
-		var sb strings.Builder
-
-		complete := true
-
-		for _, name := range p.distinct {
-			v, ok := p.distinctValue(r, name, cands[r.key])
-			if !ok {
-				complete = false
-
-				break
-			}
-
-			sb.WriteString(valueSig(v))
-			sb.WriteByte(0)
-		}
-
-		if !complete {
+		sig, ok := p.distinctSig(r, cands[r.key])
+		if !ok {
 			continue
 		}

-		if _, dup := seen[sb.String()]; dup {
+		if _, dup := seen[sig]; dup {
 			continue
 		}

-		seen[sb.String()] = struct{}{}
+		seen[sig] = struct{}{}
func (p *queryPlan) distinctSig(r *row, c *cand) (string, bool) {
	var sb strings.Builder

	for _, name := range p.distinct {
		v, ok := p.distinctValue(r, name, c)
		if !ok {
			return "", false
		}

		sb.WriteString(valueSig(v))
		sb.WriteByte(0)
	}

	return sb.String(), true
}

As per coding guidelines: "Avoid break statements; any loop break should be factored into a separate function with a fast return".

Inspect the exclusion flag before aggregating the direct property value.

numericProp returns e.GetProperties()[path] before propValues can remove values whose ExcludeFromIndexes flag is set. An excluded numeric property can therefore contribute to SUM and AVG, including the AVG divisor.

The code only moves c.at past b.lastCommit. It does not move c.at past the read times that transactions already received.

beginLocked sets readTime = readNowLocked(). When the wall clock is ahead of lastCommit, this value equals the wall-clock microsecond T. A commit later in the same microsecond also gets c.at = T. checkConflictLocked skips every change where !ch.at.After(t.readTime), so it ignores this commit.

Failure sequence:

  1. Transaction X begins at T.
  2. X reads key K and sees v1.
  3. A non-transactional write to K commits at T with v2.
  4. X writes v1+1 and commits without a conflict.

The update to v2 is lost. A read-only transaction at T can also return different results for two reads.

This sequence is more likely when the clock is coarse or when SetClock gives a fixed clock. It can also make RunInTransaction callers get wrong results without any error, for example in the "concurrent increments are serialisable" test.

Record the highest issued transaction read time. Then keep each commit time strictly later than that value.

Remove the //nolint:nilnil directives by returning an explicit flag.

commitTxnLocked returns nil, nil and adds //nolint:nilnil to hide the linter warning. A different signature removes the need for the directive. For example, return (t *txnRec, err error) with a documented nil-txn meaning through a small result type. Another option is to return (*txnRec, bool, error), where the bool reports whether a prior-read transaction exists.

As per coding guidelines: "cyclomatic complexity below 15 (extract helpers — never use //nolint)" and "Avoid nolint directives; removing rules is forbidden unless no other fix is available".

Read double-quoted text as a string, not a name.

The lexer produces tokIdent for both " and `. Per Google's GQL reference, a string literal can be a single-quoted or double-quoted string, such as 'foo' or "foo". Only backticks quote names.

Example: WHERE Name = "foo" reaches value() as a tokIdent. identValue then fails with "GQL syntax error: unexpected". NAMESPACE("ns") and PROJECT("p") inside KEY(...) also fail, because stringArg requires tokString. Only ` should produce a name token.

Dial the Datastore test listener on loopback, not [::].

Handler.Addr() returns the listener address from StartWorker. That address is [::]:port, because the listener binds :port and the returned value is the wildcard address. grpc-go applies HTTPS_PROXY to non-loopback targets, and :: is not a loopback address. When HTTPS_PROXY is set and NO_PROXY does not cover ::, the test connection goes to the proxy and does not reach the local listener. Dial the bound port on 127.0.0.1 instead:

Require a composite index when a query has inequality filters on more than one property.

For Priority > 1 AND Score < 5 with no equality filter, no ancestor and no explicit order, the values are: p.ineq has two entries, explicit == 0, hasEq == false, descKey == false. The switch therefore reaches default and returns false. Built-in single-property indexes cannot serve inequalities on two properties, so Datastore requires a composite index for this query. The emulator returns results where the PR objective says it should return FAILED_PRECONDITION. The query fails only after deployment.

Fix keyString so that two different keys cannot produce the same string.

keyString joins the path elements with the pathSep (0x1e) and kindSep (0x1f) bytes. It does not escape these bytes inside kinds or names. Datastore names are arbitrary UTF-8 strings, so a client can send names that contain 0x1e or 0x1f.

Example of a collision:

  • Key A is [Task name="a\x1eSub\x1fnb"].
  • Key B is [Task name="a", Sub name="b"].
  • Both keys produce ...\x1eTask\x1fna\x1eSub\x1fnb.

Because the two keys share one b.ents slot:

  • A write to one key overwrites the other entity.
  • A Lookup on key B returns the data of key A.
  • Transaction conflict detection treats the two keys as one key.

The partition prefix has the same problem with \x00 inside a namespace. Write a length prefix before each variable component so the encoding has only one reading.

Remove slotsdiffs from the proxy allow-list.

SlotDifferences includes valueInCurrentSlot and valueInTargetSlot for differing application settings. The dashboard proxy forwards allowed requests directly to the ARM handler, so slotsdiffs can expose those values despite the comment that application settings do not pass through this proxy.

Filter targetSwapSlot out of persisted site extras.

webSiteExtra does not remove targetSwapSlot, so a PUT that echoes a GET can store it in Extra. siteBody sets targetSwapSlot only while Pending is set, and ehMerge then copies Extra into the response. After the swap or revert clears Pending, a GET can still return the stored target. While Pending is set, the stored value overrides the live Pending.Target.

slotSwapStatus is already filtered as server-computed state. targetSwapSlot is server-computed too, so it needs the same filter. The same helper also runs on slot PUTs, so one change covers both.

Replace context.Background() with t.Context() in the long-poll tests.

The repository forbids new context.Background() calls in tests. Five lines in this file add them:

  • The background GetMessages goroutines on Lines 339, 377, 418 and 459.
  • The e.handler.Shutdown call on Line 463.

Each of these tests blocks on done or errc before it returns. Because of that, t.Context() stays live for the whole long poll and the shutdown call. The change keeps the current test behavior.

Proposed fix
-		resp, err := c.GetMessages(
-			context.Background(),
+		resp, err := c.GetMessages(
+			t.Context(),
-		_, _ = c.GetMessages(context.Background(), queue.GetMessagesRequest{QueueId: q.Id, TimeoutInSeconds: new(30)})
+		_, _ = c.GetMessages(t.Context(), queue.GetMessagesRequest{QueueId: q.Id, TimeoutInSeconds: new(30)})
-	e.handler.Shutdown(context.Background())
+	e.handler.Shutdown(t.Context())

After these edits, remove the unused context import.

Based on learnings: "Do NOT introduce context.Background()/context.TODO() in service code or tests to satisfy a signature — thread the real request/root context (in tests use t.Context())."

Guard loadChild against stale responses.

loadChild captures current and then awaits two requests. It writes slots and sticky afterward with no check that the selection is unchanged. Assume the user selects app A and then app B, or deselects A, before A's requests finish. A's slots and sticky settings then overwrite the view for B or for no selection. The swap controls can then act on the wrong slot names.

Guard loadEntities and loadChild against stale responses.

loadEntities reads project, namespace and kind at call time. It assigns entities and cursor after the await with no check that these values are unchanged. Assume the user clicks kind A and then kind B, and A's response arrives last. The table then shows A's entities under B's selection. "Load more" then continues from A's cursor. A pending Indexes request can also overwrite state after a tab switch.

Guard loadTab against stale responses.

loadTab reads tab and compartment at call time. It writes data after the await with no check that these values are unchanged. Assume the user switches from Networking to Compute while the Networking request is still pending. If the Networking response arrives last, it replaces data with Networking kinds only. The Compute tab then shows "No instances" for a populated compartment.

The finally block also clears loading when an obsolete call ends. selectTab (Line 118) and pickCompartment (Line 111) add a second loading = false through .then. Remove those .then wrappers. loadTab should own loading.

Replace the //nolint:gochecknoglobals directive with a function.

The regexp.MustCompile globals follow the same pattern as netNameRe in rp_network.go. netNameRe needs no directive, so the regexps are not what triggers the linter. The mutable dnsRecordTypes slice triggers it. Expose that slice through a function, as networkAPIVersions() does. Remove the //nolint:wrapcheck directive.

The repository guidelines forbid nolint directives. The goal is to keep the Secret Manager status message for the user, and this is possible without suppressing the linter. Wrap the error with %w. Then make the consumer get the original status with status.Convert/errors.As. Alternatively, return a typed error that carries the status message.

Set s.err when the pool discards an instance after Close.

Close can run while an instance is still starting. In that case the start goroutine sets discard and later calls p.cfg.Stop(val). It does not set s.err. Any caller blocked in await on this slot then receives s.val with a nil error and a release function. The caller then sends its request to an instance that is being stopped.

This can happen in warm() in services/gcpfunctions/deploy.go. That function closes the old pool while requests can still be waiting on a starting instance. Set s.err = ErrClosed in the discard path. await will then return ErrClosed.

Reject a zone change on an existing disk, not only a change in the zone count.

diskZones compares only len(old.Zones) and len(zones). A PUT that moves a disk from zone "1" to zone "2" therefore succeeds and stores the new zone. Line 84 in rp_compute_vm.go uses slices.Equal for the same check on VMs. ARM does not let a disk change zone. Use the same comparison here.

Deep-copy identity records in snapshot().

maps.Copy copies only the *storedIdentity pointers. Handler.Snapshot (services/azurearm/persistence.go:162-224) calls persistence.MarshalSnapshot after snapshot() releases p.mu. JSON encoding then reads the live records without the lock.

Other operations change those records in place:

  • putFederated writes parent.Federated[i].
  • putFederated also appends to parent.Federated.
  • PatchTags assigns i.Tags.

If an autosave runs at the same time as one of these writes, a data race occurs. The snapshot can then be inconsistent. Copy each record and its Federated slice while the read lock is held.

Protect nested provider state during snapshot serialization.

Handler.Snapshot obtains the network and compute snapshots before calling persistence.MarshalSnapshot. Both provider snapshots retain pointers to mutable resources after releasing their provider locks. A concurrent request can mutate Kids, Props, or Aux while JSON serialization iterates those maps, which can terminate the process with concurrent map iteration and map write.

Serialize each provider's state while its lock is held, or return a complete deep copy. Apply the correction to both NetworkProvider and ComputeProvider. Handle copy and serialization errors without replacing state with an empty snapshot.

Do not seed merged[fieldIdentity] from stored state in Patch.

Patch always renders s.Managed into merged when an identity is set. Put then calls siteIdentity with present=true, and identityService.apply re-validates every user-assigned identity through lookup. This has a consequence when a referenced user-assigned identity is deleted after assignment. Each later Patch on the site then fails with FailedIdentityOperation, even a tags-only Patch.

If the PATCH body omits identity, apply(..., present=false, prev) already keeps the stored identity. Seeding the identity is therefore not needed. Line 71 still copies body[fieldIdentity] when the caller sends one.

Remove the `p.ids.body(s.Managed)` assignment that seeds `merged[fieldIdentity]`
in `Patch`. Let `siteIdentity` preserve the stored identity when the request
omits the identity field, while retaining the existing copy of
`body[fieldIdentity]` when the caller supplies one.

Remove the //nolint:nilnil directives and replace the nil, nil returns with an explicit not-found signal.

DescribeStack, DescribeChangeSet, and DescribeService return nil, nil for an absent resource and suppress the linter with //nolint:nilnil. The repository rules forbid //nolint. They require extracting helpers or changing the code instead. A nil, nil return also forces every caller to check both values. A caller that checks only err will dereference a nil pointer.

Add a sentinel error to the codepipeline package, for example ErrStackNotFound. Return it from the adapters, and have the action engine check it with errors.Is. Update the three callers in services/codepipeline in the same change.

♻️ Example for `DescribeStack`
 	stack, err := bk.DescribeStack(name)
 	if errors.Is(err, cfnbackend.ErrStackNotFound) {
- return nil, nil //nolint:nilnil // absent stack is reported as nil by contract
+		return nil, fmt.Errorf("%w: %s", codepipelinebackend.ErrStackNotFound, name)
 	}

Apply the same pattern to the change set and ECS service lookups.

As per coding guidelines: "cyclomatic complexity below 15 (extract helpers — never use //nolint)" and "Avoid nolint directives; removing rules is forbidden unless no other fix is available".

Do not call CloudFormation or ECS while holding b.mu.

reconcileBuildActions holds b.mu while it calls advanceCloudFormation and advanceECS. A synchronous CloudFormation deployment can provision AWS::CodePipeline::Pipeline, whose handler calls CreatePipeline and waits for the same lock. The initial runOneAction path also dispatches CloudFormation actions under its caller-held lock.

Collect pending actions under the lock, release it before calling CloudFormation or ECS, then reacquire it to apply each result. Re-check that the action is still InProgress before applying the result. Apply the same rule to the initial CloudFormation/ECS action dispatch.

Prevent restart during StopTask.

StopTask calls ContainerStop before cancelContainerWait. The watcher can receive the stop result while its context is still active, and restartContainer can call ContainerStart when the restart policy allows it. No stopping-state or task-state guard prevents this.

After a successful stop, StopTask deletes the task bookkeeping. When the task has no task-scoped volumes, it does not remove the restarted Docker container, which can remain running without runner ownership.

Add a stopping guard checked by restartContainer, set it before ContainerStop, and clear or re-arm the watcher when ContainerStop fails. Reordering cancelContainerWait alone is insufficient because a failed stop would leave the watcher cancelled.

Do not add context.Background() to satisfy the ExecuteCommand signature.

ExecuteCommand calls ExecuteCommandContext with context.Background(). The repository rule forbids this pattern in service code. A caller that uses this path loses its logger, deadline, and cancellation. StartExecSession then runs with no request scope. services/glue/sessions.go Line 265 (CancelStatement) adds the same pattern.

Remove the context-free wrapper from the Backend interface, or make it take a ctx. Then thread the caller's context. handleExecuteCommand already receives one.

Based on learnings: "Do NOT introduce context.Background()/context.TODO() in service code or tests to satisfy a signature — thread the real request/root context (in tests use t.Context())."

RunStatement on a session that is not READY returns IllegalSessionStateException (RunStatement error list, API_RunStatement.html). Statements run one at a time in order: WAITING, RUNNING, AVAILABLE or ERROR with Output{Status, Data.TextPlain, ExecutionCount, ErrorName, ErrorValue, Traceback}; CancelStatement cancels WAITING directly and interrupts RUNNING (CANCELLING then CANCELLED). StatementOutput.Status is the StatementState enum (API_StatementOutput.html), so success is AVAILABLE, not "ok". Statements whose code raises end in ERROR (Statement.State enum includes ERROR; whether real Glue uses ERROR or AVAILABLE with an error output is unverified).

Correct the REPL script file name.

The note lists session_repl_py.txt. The embedded script is session_repl.pyrepl, as shown in session_docker.go Line 16 and in session_repl_test.go. A reader who searches for the listed file does not find it.

CancelStatement can interrupt the wrong statement.

cancelStatementLocked sets the statement to CANCELLING and releases b.mu. After that, CancelStatement calls proc.Interrupt with no lock held. dockerSession.Interrupt reads p.cur, which is the sequence number of whatever statement is running at that moment. The race works like this:

  1. Statement N is RUNNING. The client calls CancelStatement(N), and N becomes CANCELLING.
  2. N finishes before Interrupt runs. finishStatement changes N to CANCELLED.
  3. The worker starts the next WAITING statement N+1, and Run stores N+1 in p.cur.
  4. Interrupt writes cancel/<N+1>. The REPL raises KeyboardInterrupt in N+1.

Result: N+1 ends in ERROR, but the client never cancelled it. The time window is small, but the outcome corrupts a statement that the client did not target.

Bind the interrupt to the target statement. One approach:

  • Make SessionProcess.Interrupt take the target statement identity.
  • In dockerSession, keep a map from statement Id to request sequence, filled in Run before the request is written.
  • Write cancel/<seq> only for that sequence. Do not write it for whatever p.cur holds.

The REPL already checks cancel/<n> before it executes a request (Line 110), so a cancel file written early still works.

Alternative: re-check ls.running.Id == statementID while holding b.mu, and call Interrupt inside that critical section with the expected sequence.

Review comment at @services/glue/sessions.go around lines 260 - 268:
Update CancelStatement to reacquire b.mu after cancelStatementLocked, verify the
target statement is still running, and call proc.Interrupt while holding the
lock so the worker cannot switch statements before the interrupt; skip the
interrupt if the target has already finished or is no longer running.

Persist S3 locations for published versions.

FunctionVersion is serialized directly in backendSnapshot.Versions, so its json:"-" S3 fields are lost during restore. This breaks restored S3-backed numbered versions: versionToFn cannot provide the S3 location, and startZipContainer can return "no zip data available".

Do not persist ZipData; the Lambda snapshot contract explicitly requires code bytes to be redeployed. Add a version snapshot DTO or sidecar that preserves and restores S3BucketCode, S3KeyCode, and S3ObjectVersionCode, while keeping them excluded from API responses.

…TransactGetItems

The docs list no conflict for a TransactWriteItems overlapping an ongoing
TransactGetItems (serializable ordering only); TransactGetItems is now checked
but never registered in flight. PARITY.md cites the doc evidence and keeps the
BatchWriteItem-vs-transaction outcome as an undocumented inference.

Service bodies follow the spec examples (Created/Activating on create, URLs
only once Succeeded, none of the portal URLs on Consumption, platformVersion,
regional URL). Tier limits, id and field caps, If-Match on delete and ETag on
secret actions come from the 2022-08-01 spec and Learn limits. The gateway now
forwards the subscription key, ignores an invalid key for open products, uses
the documented 401/404/429 messages and a sliding-window rate-limit, and the
policy validator follows each policy reference page.

…port

Test helpers freePort() closed a :0 listener and let StartWorker rebind the

use). StartWorker now records the OS-assigned port via portalloc.ListenTCP,
gcpdns gains an ephemeral DNS option backed by pkgs/dns pre-bound sockets,
and a guard forbids new close-and-return port helpers.
