Obscure CPU polling introduced in 2.1.17

Windows 7 SP1, DNSCrypt v2.1.17 x64.

CPU is polled again and again and again, however my computer is idle.

Columns are executable name, PID, CPU, Private WS, I/O total rate.

Tried to turn on logging (query, nx), but logs are empty.
Setting pqdnscrypt to false does not help.
Upgrading to v2.1.18 does not help either.
So rolled back to v.2.1.16 where DNSCrypt sits quietly.

Any ideas why this happens?

This commit 504c287 kinda mitigated the issue, but it feels a bit half-baked. Yes, dnscrypt-proxy polls OS less frequently with it, but it is still noticeable — I see I/O total rate jumps to ~15 KB every now and then. Overall, v.2.1.16 still consumes less resources than v2.1.17+.

In May 2025, I was alarmed because of the fan noise and discovered a hot reloading issue in v2.1.9 — since then, for over a year now, I’ve been wary of new versions of DNSCrypt and run new binaries with a heavy heart, you know, with all sorts of oscilloscopes hooked up to track anomalies.

Gosh, this app is already complete, like a good painting, is there such need to add something regularly…
