FrankenPHP next step #114

Description

FrankenPHP next step

Here are what I think the next steps should be to get Dolibarr running on FrankenPHP

TLDR

  1. Someone other than me do some more testing
  2. We release a Dolibarr develop image based on FrankenPHP v8.4 in CGI mode
  3. Document differences
  4. November 2026 we evaluate
  5. v25 Dolibarr - we release a v25 FrankenPHP 8.4 dolibarr image6.
  6. We work on getting worker mode working, but this possibly includes (major) changes to Dolibarr itself

More testing

I think it would be beneficial if someone other than me did some more testing. This includes both building an image, but also perhaps more importantly making some benchmark tools, maybe so we can test more than mostly the API. Maybe Hurl could be used for this.

Development release

We could start releasing a FrankenPHP image with the development branch of Dolibarr, this could bring in more users and we get more experience, eyeballs and hands on.

Document differences

Once we have the development release we should document differences

Evaluation - By November 2026 - in 6 months

Once we have more users, we can evaluate based on the documentation. Are we are willing to do the extra work, and do we gain from it?

v25. Dolibarr - once this is released, perhaps we also make a FrankenPHP 8.4 image

If evaluation goes well, then we release a FrankenPHP 8.4 container image with Dolibarr v25

Ongoing - getting worker mode to work on FrankenPHP - perhaps first in the API

This is probably where the real speed gain is, so if someone could explore this more.
