Notes on uncertainty

--------------------

Runic inscriptions are often difficult to read and interpret, and their readings, datings, normalizations, and translations may vary between scholars. A reading identifies the rune forms and transliterates them into Latin characters. An interpretation goes further by normalizing the text into Old Scandinavian, translating it, and explaining its linguistic meaning. Thus, an inscription can have a proposed reading without having a settled interpretation.
