Can't run from poetry

Hi there,
Instructions from https://linux-show-player-users.readthedocs.io/en/develop/installation.html#manually don't work for me.
Error :

$ poetry install

No, JACK here. PA is off most of the time.

I'd be tempted to see if the problem still occurs if PulseAudio is uninstalled, and not just disabled, but I don't know how easy that would be, particularly if you wish to restore it afterwards, and I don't want to break your system.

I'm looking into it, on ubuntu 23.03, which defaults to PipeWire, it doesn't occurs.

It might be related to this lines:

Try to install the libasound2-plugins, if fails again with a "core dump", try using the --log debug option, and post the output.

The work-around I have found is to copy file linux-show-player from 0.5.3 git and launch it from 0.6 root. This way I can use last version.

It's possible, if you have all the correct dependencies installed it could run off your system python installation

I have already libasound2-plugins .
The problem is the two lines you've pointed, then the ALSA modules are not in this path : on my system I have /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/alsa-lib/ and not /usr/lib64/alsa-lib/ . I believe the first is the standard multi-arch path for Debian-based distro. Many others distros use lib64 instead.
If I sym-link alsa-lib in /usr/lib64, it works. But I don't know if it is the correct solution.

ALSA has an environment variable that you could try if you don't feel like symlinking:

export ALSA_PLUGIN_DIR=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/alsa-lib/
poetry run linux-show-player

(Assuming that poetry passes shell environment variables into the virtual python environment.)

As a general note, this seems to be a problem with installing python-rtmidi from the Python Packaging Index on debian and debian-derived systems, see also SpotlightKid/python-rtmidi#138

Yes, the problem is apparently with the bundled libasound. Although I'm not sure why python is crashing, it should emit an exception 😕

@moonshaadow this has be fixed. It should be enough to run poetry update to get the last version of python-rtmidi
