Mac OS compatibilty ?

Hello,

Is it possible to use this docker image with Docker on Mac OS ?
If not, I'd love to do a feature request ;)
Upmpdcli is not easily available in Mac OS, I tried to compile it myself but I'm not an infoamtician and the result is very unstable :(

Hello, I don't think that this will reliably work on docker desktop (not specifically on mac but also on windows). The problem is with host networking.

Looking here documentation says:

[Limitations](https://docs.docker.com/engine/network/drivers/host/#limitations)
Processes inside the container cannot bind to the IP addresses of the host because the container has no direct access to the interfaces of the host.
The host network feature of Docker Desktop works on layer 4. This means that unlike with Docker on Linux, network protocols that operate below TCP or UDP are not supported.
This feature doesn't work with Enhanced Container Isolation enabled, since isolating your containers from the host and allowing them access to the host network contradict each other.
Only Linux containers are supported. Host networking does not work with Windows containers.

It mentions windows but macos has (probably) the same issue.
So an option would be compiling, but there is no support for this. I don't have a mac available to try this unfortunately.

Can't you run upmpdcli on linux host? maybe a NAS?
Also, what's your goal? There are other options that don't necessarily need host networking, like e.g. Lyrion Music Server. This will most likely work with docker desktop because it only stictly needs port forwarding.

My goal is almost reached, now I only have issues on the upnp renderers sides :

• I think my upmpdci is bad compiled, so it's very unstable and crashes very very often (which is not tolerable)
• Macast is an alternative that works nicely, but there is a volume issue : Narjo volume command doesn't work. I did bug reports, and will let you know.

So now I wait that the bug between Narjo and Macast is solved, and meanwhile I do attempts to compile upmpdcli :)

Hello, I prefer using upnp than airplay, because I'm not sure how airplay handles sample rate. With upnp I'm sure its really lossless.

And I already use mpd since several years, it's working very nicely, but my goal would be able to use the same player and library when playing my music on my iOS device AND on my speakers connected to the Mac (a Sonoma Nucintosh in fact). Now I'm using two differents players : Narjo for playing on my device, and Rigelian (mpd) for local play on my Nucintosh. But it's too complicated for my family, that's why I'm searching for a simpler solution.

So my solution is : Narjo, a new iOS navidrome client that can play on upnp renderers (and of course on Airplay but as I said I prefer not to).

I kind of imagined that airplay was not ideal for you. Being here, I had to assume you already was aware of the option. Let's see if we can compile upmpdcli then.

Which client are you using? There are a few that can play via AirPlay, at least Play:Sub and Navibeat, both paid. For those two Airplay is mentioned in the clients page. That should be a lot easier, but you'd give up hires and maybe lossless as well. About the compiling issue, I replied on the framagit issue (seems more appropriate). If you pursue the upmpdcli installation on macos, you will also need mpd as the actual player. That might work on docker on macos with no issues because it does not require host networking. I have a container image for mpd which might work for you.

Developer of NaviBeat here, thanks for the mention. One small clarification in case it helps someone: NaviBeat plays FLAC and hi-res locally at full quality. AirPlay itself is Apple's transport layer, so whatever it does to the stream after that is the same for any app, not specific to NaviBeat. For local playback on the device there is no quality trade-off.

Maybe try these steps to compile upmpdcli on macos.

• install homebrew here
• install tools: brew install meson ninja pkg-config libmpdclient jsoncpp libmicrohttpd libupnpp expat curl
• clone upmpdcli:

The moment J.F. stepped in, I knew that there was hope.
What now? Do You also want to try the subsonic plugin? That would make the library available from generic upnp control point of you plan to go for this route also.

Actually, enabling the subsonic plugin won't restrict you to be able to play only via upnp. You will still be able to play from the navidrome gui, from Music Assistant (if you use it), Lyrion with its plugin, Symfonium on you android phone, or any other Navidrome client. It's just one more option, it won't limit you in any way. I also use tailscale, but recently I have setup Cloudflare (using authentication via custom headers) on one of my subsonic server (Lightweight Music Server, but I could do the same for Navidrome) so I don't even need tailscale running to use Symfonium from anywhere.

In fact I managed to compile it, but it's still very unstable....
It often crashes at first try (ì tried different corrections without success)
And too slow responsive : it takes a lot of time to Narjo before I begin to hear the music on my speakers.
So not very usable for a simple / everyday usage unfortunatly.

Hi ! It's not related to a plugin, I only installed the upmpdci I compiled...
And even in verbose mode, I see nothing in the logs.
But I'll keep on investigate... I do agree that upmpdcli+subsonic plugin is the solution for my use case.
