OPENIMAGESTREAM fails with "No printers for IP" opening an Interpress printer

Opening an image stream with

(OPENIMAGESTREAM "{LPT}POSEIDON:" 'INTERPRESS)

generates a "No printers for IP" error. The printer in question is running and is of type INTERPRESS.

I think the problem is the colon.

OPENIMAGESTREAM applies the open function (OPENIPSTREAM) for the IMAGETYPE (INTERPRESS) to a filename that it creates by packing one of the device's extensions (in this case IP) as an extension on the file name that was given {LPT}POSEIDON:. So you get {LPT}POSEIDON:.IP as the extended LPTNAME. But then the PRINTERDEVICE.OPEN tries to get the name of the printer by (FILENAMEFIELD LPTNAME 'NAME), and that's what fails. It thinks that POSEIDON: is the device (e.g. tape drive?) field, and produces .IP as the name--POSEIDON: is lost.

The solution may be for PRINTERDEVICE.OPEN to do its own parsing of the file, taking everything between the } and the . as the printer name.

(BTW, when I play around with this in my dodo configuration, I see messages of the form
connectToHub() - connect failed: Connection refused
showing up in the terminal window.)

Concerning the connection refused warnings, try making the printer configuration file also group readable.

Make sure that you have both the nethub and the dodoserver processes running with exactly one instance of each, and nethub has to be started before dodoserver with sufficient delay for it to have established the listener before dodoserver attempts to connect to it.

./run-nethub.sh &

and when I shut them down I do
