Question: How to specify minimal gap allowed between objects?

Hi,
I want to specify the minimal gap allowed between objects because I find the gap sometimes is a little bit too large for my usecase, but sometimes the gap is too small(two objects is too close and clip together).

Hi,

I am not quite sure what you mean exactly.
By default there is no minimum separation distance between items.

You can configure one using this parameter:

sparrow/src/config.rs

you can see from the image, two items(the red one above, and the black one below) are too close together. there's no visible gap between two items, but in our work, there must be some visible gap between two items.

I tried the min_item_separation arg. One question, will there be some extra cost if I set 'min_item_separation' to like 3? Because it became unacceptably slow when I enabled this parameter.

There will be a cost associated with it yes, but it is not really is the speed of the algorithm (as in the iterations per second).
What happens internally in jagua-rs is that every item's shape gets inflated by half the specified amount.

Of course, the achievable density will decrease because items cannot be packed as closely together.
There speed might drop a little because the shapes become a bit more complex, but it should not make a significant difference.
