Description

Download Boost in the CI image builds from sw-dl-triton-generic-local on artifactory.nvidia.com (AWS Artifactory) instead of the same repository on urm. Only the host in BOOST_URL in docker/common/install_base.sh changes. Builds without GITHUB_MIRROR still download Boost from archives.boost.io.

Why:

  • Since 2026-10-27, urm answers anonymous reads from sw-dl-triton-generic-local with HTTP 401. install_base.sh downloads Boost from there whenever GITHUB_MIRROR is set, which every CI image build does, so every image build fails in the devel stage's first RUN with Username/Password Authentication Failed. BuildDockerImages build 177 failed this way in all 14 attempts, on x86_64 and SBSA. Main's nightly image build, BuildDockerImages build 176, earlier the same day, still downloaded the file.
  • artifactory.nvidia.com has the same repository, with the file at the same path and readable anonymously. It is the same file: 136,670,223 bytes with SHA-256 4b2136f98bdd1f5857f1c3dea9ac2018effe65286cf251534b6ae20cc45e1847, the checksum boost.io publishes for boost_1_80_0.tar.gz.
  • Boost is the only file this repository downloads from sw-dl-triton-generic-local, on main and on release/1.3. The image builds' other urm downloads still work: BuildDockerImages build 177 pulled its base images from urm before it failed, and the github-go-remote mirror that GITHUB_MIRROR points to still answers anonymous reads.

Sibling PR on release/1.3: #21134. It makes the same change there, so the line reads the same on both branches.

Impact:

  • The images don't change, because the file is byte-identical.
  • artifactory.nvidia.com answers the download with a redirect to its CDN, which wget follows. No credential, Jenkins or Dockerfile change is needed.

Test Coverage

  • Outside CI, install_boost's wget command, run anonymously against the new URL, followed the redirect and downloaded the 136,670,223-byte file with the SHA-256 above. The archive contains boost_1_80_0/boost/, the directory install_boost installs.
  • /bot run --stage-list "Build-Docker-Images" builds every image family on x86_64 and SBSA: the CI images (Ubuntu and Rocky Linux), the internal release images, and the NGC devel and release images. Each runs install_base.sh. In each make …_push stage's log, BOOST_URL should be the artifactory.nvidia.com URL, and wget should report [136670223/136670223] -> "/tmp/boost.tar.gz". The Register NGC Image For Security Check stage fails in pre-merge image builds whatever the images do (it failed in BuildDockerImages build 169, where every image built), so judge the run by its make …_push stages, not its overall result.

Dev Engineer Review

When GITHUB_MIRROR is set, BOOST_URL now uses artifactory.nvidia.com. Without the mirror, it still uses archives.boost.io. Both paths feed the existing install_boost function, which extracts Boost 1.80.0 and installs its headers. No other code changes are reported.

The PR author reports that the Artifactory archive matches the expected size and SHA-256 checksum. The requested Docker image build has no reported outcome, so CI validation remains unconfirmed.

QA Engineer Review

No test changes.

Per-File QA Perspective

  • docker/common/install_base.sh: Verify Boost downloads in builds with and without GITHUB_MIRROR, and confirm that both paths install Boost 1.80.0 headers. The requested Docker image build has no reported result.

urm's sw-dl-triton-generic-local has refused anonymous reads (HTTP 401)
since 2026-10-27, and install_base.sh downloads Boost from it whenever
GITHUB_MIRROR is set, as it is in every CI image build. So every devel
image build now fails. Download the same file from that repository on
artifactory.nvidia.com, which serves it to anonymous reads. Its SHA-256
matches the boost.io release.
