Roadmap
Hello!
This is a partial roadmap for NotProton. I want to share what I am working on without making specific promises about when these things will arrive.
Short term roadmap:
First, I want to listen to feedback. I made some design decisions, I want to see if people like/agree with them. Do people hate the 'CrossOver settings are shown as launch options for a game' decision? I think the answer is 'yes' and the plan there is to put a 'box' with that text specifically in the Compatibility page.
The next major release will include support for custom versions of CrossOver. A user can modify CrossOver to use an alternative version of DXMT/add game specific fixes and give that version of CrossOver a user specified name, which will appear in the Compatibility UI. I also plan to add the ability to select specific runtime versions (DXMT, etc) in the compatibility UI. A user can select the location of the specific version of DXMT/D3DMetal/etc that they want to use on a per game basis, without having to modify CrossOver.
I want to add support for global default settings. I plan to put this in the Preferences - Compatibility tab for Steam itself. This would allow a user to set something such as 'turn on AVXV2 for all Windows games' and have that apply to any Windows title that they did not explicitly disable that for.
I have a clever, experimental (and optional) feature that fixes a long running annoyance of mine. I have a way to create a macOS full screen 'game space' for a game, at the time the game starts. I also have a way for a user to set the maximum resolution that the game sees without modifying the resolution of the Mac itself. It's quite cool. It's also quite early, but is high on my priority list as it improves QOL quite a bit. No more SwitchResX.
That was some of my current planned short-term roadmap. Minus anything I am forgetting. Some of those features are deep in development, some have not started development yet. Stay tuned.
