Fix RS485 requests to target configured slave IDs - #522
Conversation
The serial path set `client.slave = device_id` and sent reads and writes without a device_id. pymodbus takes the unit as a request kwarg (default 1) and AsyncModbusSerialClient never reads `slave`, so every serial request went to unit 1 whatever slave ID was configured: several inverters on one bus all read and wrote unit 1, and an inverter at another address never answered. Pass device_id on every request for both TCP and serial, as the config flow probe already does. Entries whose slave ID is wrong but which worked because of the bug now get no data. While a serial entry with slave ID other than 1 has never answered, probe unit 1 every connection check (from a minute after startup); if it answers, log a warning and raise a repair issue telling the user to reconfigure the entry with slave ID 1. Skipped when unit 1 is another configured inverter on the same port; cleared once the configured slave answers or the entry no longer applies.

- Line 313: Separate the unit-1 probe state from the settled-check state in
`check_connection`: after raising the slave-ID issue, stop probing without
skipping later `has_answered` clear-condition checks. Add an issue-raised state
initialized in `__init__`, set it when the issue is raised, and guard only the
subsequent probe path; add a test confirming the issue is deleted after
`controller.has_answered` becomes true.

Raising the issue settled the check, so the clear conditions were never evaluated again and an issue raised while the inverter was asleep at startup stayed until the entry reloaded. Track the raised issue on its own: stop probing, but keep checking whether to clear it.
The controller now passes device_id on every request, so the client's slave attribute was never read. Default device_id to 1, as pymodbus does.

- Line 309: In the unit-1-occupied branch of the slave-ID check, keep the check
pending by removing the assignment that marks _slave_id_checked true, and reset
_slave_id_issue_raised when deleting the issue so a later probe can run without
a prior warning blocking it.

…unload Don't settle the check while another entry on the port uses slave ID 1: that entry may be removed later. Delete the issue when the entry stops, like the datalogger issue; a reload raises it again if it still applies.
What was wrong
On serial (RS485) connections,
ModbusControllersetclient.slave = device_idand then calledread_input_registers/read_holding_registers/write_register/write_registerswithoutdevice_id. pymodbus 3.12 takes the unit as a request kwarg (default1) andAsyncModbusSerialClientnever reads aslaveattribute. So every serial request went to unit 1, whatever slave ID was configured. The TCP branch has always passeddevice_id. The split dates from fe8851a ("RS485 fixes after rebase"). The config-flow probe had the same bug and was fixed in f5eea4d. This PR fixes the runtime path.Who it affected:
Change
device_id=self.device_idfor both TCP and serial. Theclient.slaveassignments and the TCP/serial branching are removed.DataRetrievalprobes unit 1 on each connection check (every 2 min, starting a minute after startup) by reading the model's probe register. If unit 1 answers, it logs a warning and raises aserial_slave_idrepair issue telling the user to reconfigure the entry with slave ID 1. Translated in all 8 languages.ModbusController.async_unit_answers(), so an answer from unit 1 never counts as the configured inverter answering. A newhas_answeredflag tracks that.last_modbus_successcan't be used because it starts at "now".InverterConfig.probe_register, shared by the config flow and the new check.Interaction with #521 (Connect AUX-2)
#521 has landed and is merged into this branch. The controller now passes
device_idon every request, soSerialProxyClienttakes the unit fromdevice_idonly. Itsslavefallback, which nothing read any more, is removed, anddevice_iddefaults to 1 as in pymodbus (1c2dd23).Release notes

Testing
tests/test_modbus_controller.py: the serial read tests now expectdevice_id. NewTestModbusControllerSerialSlaveruns a serial controller at slave 7 (client mocked withspec=AsyncModbusSerialClient) and checks that reads and both write paths senddevice_id=7. These tests fail on master and pass here. The class also coversasync_unit_answersandhas_answered.tests/test_serial_slave_id_issue.py: when the issue is raised, retried, cleared and skipped (TCP, slave 1, slave answered, unit 1 configured on the same or another port, too early after startup).ruff checkandruff format --checkare clean.
