If this can be handled by the upstream kernel, I'd argue the current set of quirks that nudge Arducams in user land should be upstreamed to the kernel. Yes yes, I know this means you have to go submit patches via mailing list and not get mauled on LKML, but I think it's better than maintaining what's basically a hack in userland.
