Code of Conduct

The short version

Be decent to people. Assume the person you are replying to is acting in good faith and is telling you what they actually saw. Most of what arrives here is somebody reporting a problem with their own television setup, often after several frustrating hours, and often in a second language.

What is expected

  • Keep criticism aimed at code, behaviour and evidence, not at people.
  • Accept that a report can be right about the symptom and wrong about the cause, and say so without making the reporter feel foolish.
  • Say when you are guessing. A confident wrong answer costs somebody else a day.
  • Respect that maintainers and contributors here are doing this in their own time. Nobody is owed a fix on a schedule.

What is not acceptable

  • Personal attacks, insults, or sustained hostility.
  • Harassment of any kind, in issues, pull requests, discussions or private messages arising from this project.
  • Comments about someone's identity, background or ability rather than their argument.
  • Deliberately posting other people's private information.
  • Persisting after being asked to stop.

Reporting

If someone's behaviour is a problem, report it privately to the maintainer rather than in a public thread, using GitHub's private reporting form or a direct message on Discord. Say what happened and where. You do not need to prove intent, and you will not be asked to argue your case in public.

Please do not paste provider credentials, stream URLs or M3U account names into a report, for the same reason those are kept out of bug reports: this repository is public and an issue cannot be reliably unpublished.

Enforcement

The maintainer decides what to do, and the range runs from a private word through editing or removing a comment to blocking an account from the repository. Which one applies depends on how severe the behaviour was and whether it continued after being raised. Reports are handled privately, and a report made in good faith will not be held against the reporter even if nothing further comes of it.

Scope

This applies in the repository's issues, pull requests, discussions and code review, and to conduct elsewhere that is directed at people because of their participation here.
