Update on setup

Just to update I am still testing and adapting the original configuraiton to my requirements.

• Disabled Load ML for the moment - I will try that out later once I have got used to Predbat. Also it massively increases startup times from what I could tell.
• Tested most modes except for charging in the automatic mode. I have adapted the Alpha ESS modes that I want to use:
• -- Demand - Mode 0 normal.
• -- Charge start = Force charge automation.
• -- Charge Freeze Excess export with " support_feedin_first: true" in the apps.yaml config."Battery only Charges from PV (1)"
• -- Discharge start = Forced export automation (I chose to carry on using this).
• -- Discharge Freeze - Excess export with " support_feedin_first: true" in the apps.yaml config.
• Changed the apps.yaml to adapt it to the Axel Koegler integration.
• Changed the bridge automations - I do not want Predbat to control the discharge rate as I confirmed with the Predbat team on their Github site that Predbat will only respect export limits lower than inverter limits in planning, not in the actual commands. As such I reverted it to use the max export rate that I am allowed.
• Implemented Axle API.
• Still need to test car charge hold/freeze to see if it works - currently relying on my own automations.
• Tweaked car charging settings and sensors for my requirements.
• Created custom version of the default Predbat dashboard with settings that I want to tweak (e.g. Battery cycle cost per Kwh) at the top of the list.
• Insert placeholders to force battery charge and discharge curves to 100% to avoid long startup delays (I was unable so far to get Predbat to pick up an auto curve neither for charge nor discharge - if you have data please advise).
• Temperature curve - not configured - if you are using it and have suggestions please advice.

Once I have got this all working I can upload the files if you like as alternates.

Thanks for the update — really useful to see how you’ve adapted it to your own AlphaESS setup.

Your changes around Demand / Force Charge / Excess Export make sense, and it’s particularly useful to know what you found regarding PredBat respecting a reduced export limit in the plan but not necessarily in the command sent to the inverter.

I’d definitely be interested in you uploading your alternative files once you’re happy with them. I think having another working AlphaESS configuration alongside mine would be useful, especially as there seem to be quite a few differences depending on how people want PredBat and the inverter to interact.

On the charge/discharge curves, I haven’t deliberately forced mine to 100%. I’ll have a look at what PredBat is currently using on my system and whether it has actually built usable curves from the data before suggesting you copy anything from mine.

Likewise with the temperature curve — I’d rather check what my current setup is actually doing before giving you settings that may not be relevant to the AlphaESS.

It will also be interesting to hear how you get on with the car Hold/Freeze behaviour once you test it, as I’ve done quite a bit of work around that area on my own setup.
