Be decent to people. Criticise work, not the person who wrote it. Assume the other person is trying to get it right.
This project is deliberately blunt about code. Reviews here are direct, and a change can be rejected for reasons that are stated plainly. That directness applies to work, never to people.
Concretely:
- Critique the code, the design, or the claim. Not the author's competence, background, or motives.
- Say what is wrong and why, with evidence. "This is broken" without a reason is not a review, it is noise.
- Accept that being wrong is normal and correcting quickly is the point. That applies to the maintainer as much as to anyone else.
- Disagreement is welcome and useful. Contempt is not.
- Harassment, personal attacks, or demeaning comments.
- Discrimination or prejudicial remarks of any kind, including about age, disability, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity or orientation.
- Publishing anyone's private information without permission.
- Sustained disruption of discussions, or persistently pushing past a clear no.
This applies in every project space: issues, pull requests, discussions, commits, and any other channel where you are participating in the project.
Report a problem to the maintainer privately via a GitHub direct message or by opening a security advisory if the matter is sensitive.
Reports will be handled discreetly. Depending on severity, the response may be a private word, a public correction, removal of the offending content, or a block from the project. The maintainer decides, and will explain the reasoning where it is reasonable to do so.
This project does not have a large governance structure. It has one maintainer and an expectation that people behave like adults.
