Request Bengali (bn) localization and current translator access path

I would like to contribute a Bengali (Bangla, bn) localization for OSRM Text Instructions.

Bengali is not currently present under languages/translations/, and the Transifex URL referenced by the contribution guide currently returns a 404 page:

Questions

1. Is the Transifex project still active at a new URL or under a different organization?
2. What is the current process for requesting and translating a new language?
3. Would a Bengali localization be welcome if it includes the translation file, registration in languages.js, generated fixtures, tests, and a changelog entry?
4. Is bn the preferred language code, or should the initial localization use a regional code such as bn-BD?

I am a native Bengali speaker from Bangladesh and can translate the full instructions in context, preserve all interpolation tokens, review generated route sentences, and add Bengali-specific overrides or abbreviations only where they are genuinely required.

I will wait for confirmation of the supported localization workflow before preparing code or translation files.

Is the Transifex project still active at a new URL or under a different organization?

Yes, the project is still active. Thanks for reporting the broken links. Transifex moved the project to a new location. #360 updates those links.

What is the current process for requesting and translating a new language?

Someone already asked us to add Bengali to Transifex and we added it, but they never contributed any translations. You’ll need to log into Transifex and ask to join the translation team for Bengali. Once you’re done, please follow the rest of the steps in our contributing guide.

Does Bengali have grammatical inflection, such as grammatical case? If so, you may want to also contribute a grammar file for best results, though this can happen after landing the main translation files. (Client projects like osrm-frontend may require additional minor steps.)

Is bn the preferred language code, or should the initial localization use a regional code such as bn-BD?

Please use bn. Only request bn-BD once bn is complete, and only if Bengali in Bangladesh has notable differences from Bengali spoken elsewhere among the strings we have in this project.

Thank you for confirming the current workflow and updating the broken links. I’ll join the Transifex Bengali team and begin completing the bn translation, preserving all interpolation tokens and reviewing the generated navigation instructions in context.

Bengali uses postpositions and context-dependent word forms, but it does not generally apply noun-case inflection in the same way as highly inflected languages. I’ll first complete the main translation and evaluate the generated fixtures. If systematic grammatical adjustments are necessary, I’ll propose a focused grammar or override file afterward.

Once the translation is complete, I’ll follow the contribution guide to add bn, generate fixtures, run the tests, and submit the localization for review. Thank you for the guidance.

Thank you again for enabling Bengali (bn). I selected Bengali (bn) — Available to join in the Transifex project and submitted the join request. After submission, Transifex redirects me to its dashboard, but the dashboard remains indefinitely on the loading/skeleton screen, even after reloading and reopening the direct project invitation.

Could you please check whether my Bengali translator request reached the Project OSRM team and approve or add me to the existing bn team manually if it is visible? My GitHub account is @khalilurrrahmanridoykhan. I can provide my Transifex username if needed.

I now have the approval notification and will begin translating the bn resources carefully, preserving placeholders and reviewing each instruction in navigation context.
