The docs build failed on an unresolvable cross-reference to vgi_rpc.HostedProtocol

mkdocs --strict can't resolve vgi_rpc.HostedProtocol from vgi-rpc's published
inventory, so the docs job (and the 0.43.0 release) failed. Name the type in
plain code instead of linking it.
