# ASTERION FCTA-1 — Portfolio Summary
2+
3+
## Project statement
4+
5+
ASTERION FCTA-1 is a multidisciplinary aerospace CAD/CAM/CAE demonstrator centred on a modular, orbit-assembled spacecraft and detachable lifting-body aeroshuttle. The project showcases top-down Siemens NX design planning, ANSYS analysis preparation, independent Python screening, NX CAM process planning, manufacturing documentation and open-source technical communication.
6+
7+
## Skills demonstrated
8+
9+
### Siemens NX
10+
- Master-model and datum architecture
11+
- Expressions and parametric design intent
12+
- WAVE-linked top-down assembly planning
13+
- Advanced surface strategy for the Skimmer
14+
- Arrangements, interfaces, BOM and drawing planning
15+
16+
### ANSYS
17+
- Beam/shell idealisation strategy
18+
- Static, modal and eigenvalue-buckling case definition
19+
- Thermal and thermal-stress preparation
20+
- Cabin ventilation and external-aerodynamics Fluent planning
21+

22+
23+
### NX CAM and manufacturing
24+
- Milling, turning, drilling, reaming, boring and thin-wall planning
25+
- Tool-library and cutting-parameter control
26+
- Fixtures, setup sheets and inspection planning
27+
- Safe simulation-only educational toolpath examples
28+
- Additive-manufacturing prototypes
29+
30+
### Open-source engineering
31+
- Neutral CAD publication
32+
- Traceable requirements and design risks
33+
- Reproducible calculations and validation scripts
34+
- GitHub Pages interactive portfolio
35+
- Honest claim boundaries and public release governance
36+
37+
## Strongest engineering narrative
38+
39+
Version 0.5 screening exposed excessive emergency-braking and docking flexibility. Version 0.8 did not hide these weaknesses; it redesigned the load paths with ring torque braces, forward docking spreaders and propulsion struts. This increased idealised structural mass but significantly improved stiffness and modal performance. The project therefore demonstrates engineering iteration rather than only visual modelling.
40+
41+
## Recommended CV entry
42+
43+
Designed **ASTERION FCTA-1**, a modular orbit-assembled spacecraft and lifting-body aeroshuttle portfolio using Siemens NX, ANSYS, NX CAM and Python. Developed parametric CAD architecture, structural/thermal/CFD analysis workflows, representative manufacturing plans, optimisation studies, neutral model releases and an interactive GitHub Pages presentation.
