Simple RSync Daemon — Progress Report

Date: May 2026
Current version: 0.3.1 Beta
Gate status: PRODUCTION_GATE.md Gate 1 complete (with minor doc/packaging follow-ups)

Executive Summary

v0.3.1 Beta is shipped: core file operations work, all CTest suites pass, installers are on GitHub. The daemon uses a simplified custom protocol — not verified against native rsync(1). TLS, production security, and native client compatibility remain v0.4.0 / v0.5.0 work.

Open items (non-blocking for Beta label)

  • Linux CI ctest on push

Assessment

Strengths: Professional build/packaging, passing test suite, honest Beta positioning.
Risks: Security features mostly config-level; do not expose to untrusted networks without v0.4.0.

Overall: Ready for controlled beta deployments; not ready for general production.
