Starisian Technologies
Like the broader creative and technical communities we serve, the Starisian Technologies team is made up of a growing group of builders, artists, linguists, educators, and volunteers working across the globe. We collaborate on tools for cultural preservation, storytelling, education, music, and economic empowerment.
We come from diverse backgrounds — and that is one of our greatest strengths. But diversity can also bring challenges in communication, expectation, and culture. This Code of Conduct exists to help us build a safe, respectful, and open space where everyone can participate fully and with dignity.
This Code applies to all spaces managed by Starisian Technologies and its projects. That includes our GitHub repositories, discussion boards, virtual events, project-related forums, and any collaborative spaces we maintain. In some cases, violations outside these spaces may still affect someone’s ability to participate within them.

Assume good intent. We're all here to learn, build, and contribute together — sometimes at different speeds.
We strive to support people of all identities, abilities, and experiences — including those across races, cultures, genders, sexual orientations, class, religion, language, neurotype, or nationality. This is a global, inclusive community.
Your decisions will affect others — their work, their time, and sometimes their reputation. Consider how your words or code affect the people around you, especially across language and cultural boundaries.
We won’t always agree. That’s okay. What’s not okay is disrespect, exclusion, harassment, or harm. Disagreements must never become personal attacks. No project is more important than the dignity of the people contributing to it.
Kindness costs nothing. Do not insult, dismiss, or attack. The following behavior is never acceptable:
- Threats or acts of violence
- Hate speech, slurs, or discrimination of any kind
- Sexually explicit or graphically violent content
- Doxing or publishing someone’s private information
- Repeated harassment or unwanted contact
- Unwelcome sexual attention or commentary
If someone asks you to stop — stop.
Different people have different perspectives, experiences, and pain points. Try to ask clarifying questions. Focus on solutions, not blame. Give others space to explain. And when you’re wrong? Own it. We all mess up. What matters is how we grow.
We, as contributors, maintainers, users, and community leaders of Starisian Technologies and its projects, pledge to foster an open, welcoming, diverse, and harassment-free environment.
We are committed to making participation in our projects a respectful and empowering experience for everyone — regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, race, religion, sexual orientation, or cultural identity.
- Demonstrate empathy, kindness, and patience.
- Be respectful of differing opinions, cultures, and experiences.
- Use welcoming and inclusive language — especially across languages and dialects.
- Give and gracefully accept constructive feedback.
- Apologize and take responsibility when you make mistakes — and learn from them.
- Prioritize what is best for the community, not just individual needs.
- Harassment of any kind (public or private)
- Sexually explicit or violent material
- Discriminatory language or personal attacks
- Posting (or threatening to post) others’ private information (“doxing”)
- Repeated or unwelcome sexual attention
- Trolling, baiting, or disruptive behavior
- Use of our tools for surveillance, cultural extraction, or unethical profiling
If someone asks you to stop, stop immediately.
This Code of Conduct applies to:
- All online and offline spaces managed by Starisian Technologies
- GitHub repositories, discussions, wikis, social media, and virtual events
- Any instance where a person is officially representing the project
Conduct violations outside these spaces may impact a person’s participation in the community, especially if they harm others involved.
We follow a community impact scale for determining consequences:
Impact: Minor, unintentional behavior
Consequence: Private warning. A public apology may be requested.
Impact: Single or repeated violations
Consequence: Formal warning with boundaries. Any further violation may result in temporary or permanent exclusion.
Impact: Serious violation or pattern of harm
Consequence: Temporary removal from all community interaction.
Impact: Continued violations, harassment, or harm
Consequence: Permanent removal from the community and all Starisian-affiliated projects.
Community leaders are empowered to:
- Clarify and uphold the Code of Conduct in all community spaces
- Investigate reports with discretion and respect for all parties
- Temporarily restrict participation or moderate content to de-escalate harm or maintain safety
These decisions are made in collaboration with Starisian Technologies staff and, where appropriate, other trusted members of the project community.
While community leaders may act quickly to address urgent issues, they do not act alone or with final authority. Longer-term or complex enforcement decisions are reviewed collectively.
Our approach to enforcement promotes collaboration and protection, ensuring our community remains a safe, constructive, and inclusive environment for everyone involved.

Participation in Starisian Technologies projects does not imply employment or a formal working relationship unless explicitly defined by contract. Contributors, volunteers, and community collaborators are not employees by default.

Starisian Technologies adheres to the California Supply Chain Transparency Act, committing to responsible sourcing, ethical labor practices, and visibility in all tiers of our partnerships and vendor relationships.

These policies apply across all public projects and platforms developed by or under Starisian Technologies.
Starisian Technologies is a California-based organization and complies with all relevant federal and state labor laws, including:
- The California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA)
- Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) requirements
- Anti-harassment and hostile workplace protections
All individuals working with or representing Starisian Technologies — whether as employees, volunteers, trainees, contractors, or contributors — are protected by and subject to these legal standards.
Violations of this Code of Conduct may also constitute violations of state or federal law, and will be referred to appropriate legal or human resource processes where applicable.
While we serve a global community, all contributors agree that:
- This project is governed by the laws of San Diego, California, USA
- Legal claims related to this codebase or conduct will fall under this jurisdiction
- This legal framework coexists with our global ethical obligation to protect the sovereignty and dignity of the people and communities we serve
This Code of Conduct is based on the Contributor Covenant and the Speak Up! Project, with adaptations for the creative, cultural, and community-focused mission of Starisian Technologies.
We are building tools that serve people — not just platforms. This only works if we protect the people who power it.
