BudgetPixel Sound Effects

A library of about 2,600 AI-generated sound effects (UI clicks, impacts, whooshes, ambiences and foley) from BudgetPixel, an AI image, video and audio generation platform. Every sound downloads as WAV or MP3 without an account, and the library, along with the site's background-music tracks, is published under CC BY 4.0 with credit to BudgetPixel AI. Licence, commercial use (games named) and credit were re-read and unchanged on 2026-10-04, so the entry is active. Two caveats remain: the sounds are machine-generated from undisclosed models and training data, and the licence changed from a no-attribution licence to CC BY 4.0 only on 2026-09-23. Prefer human-recorded libraries such as kenney-interface-sounds or sonniss-gdc when provenance matters.

Notes

  • Licence: CC BY 4.0 on every sound effect and music track. Commercial use, including games, is allowed. Credit is required; each sound page gives its own credit line in the form shown in attribution_string.
  • Redistribution: allowed under CC BY 4.0 as long as the credit and licence go with the files; you may not add stricter terms or DRM.
  • AI provenance: the site says every sound is AI-generated and reviewed by an AI audio reviewer. The models and training data are not named. See ../../docs/ai-assets.md: Steam may require disclosure of player-facing generated content, and purely machine-made output may carry no copyright at all, which weakens what the CC BY grant actually conveys.
  • Licence change: files downloaded before 2026-09-23 keep the terms they came with; anything downloaded from that date on is CC BY 4.0. Re-check the audio licence page before relying on older downloads.
  • Upsell: the same page offers on-demand AI generation with account credits. Only the published library is covered by this entry; generated output falls under the site's general terms instead.
  • Status (2026-10-04): licence, commercial use and credit are settled and quoted, so active. The undisclosed training data and the 2026-09-23 licence switch are provenance caveats, not open licence questions.
