ccMixter

Remix community and CC music archive (stems, a cappellas, finished tracks). There is no site-wide commercial grant. The attribution page splits CC BY ("used free commercially") and CC BY-NC (personal use only) and lists YouTube, remixes, mobile apps, and games as example contexts. The homepage lead is still "Free Music for YouTube." Treat it like Freesound: open the track, reject NC, credit BY, watch for ND if any remain. Prefer incompetech or kenney-music-jingles when you want one license for the whole library.

Notes

  • Attribution how-to: ccmixter.org/how-to-attribute-ccmixter-tracks
  • dig.ccmixter.org/free is their CC BY search. dig.ccmixter.org/ccplus is the NC side. Filters are not a legal guarantee
  • MixterPlus (mixter.plus) is a separate invite product. This entry is ccMixter.org
  • Interactive sync of an ND track is still the usual trap. On 2026-08-24's attribution page only pictured BY and BY-NC. That is not proof ND never appears
  • Checklist: CC flavors named, commercial per track, attribution required, not a Unity/Fab EULA, named community, not blocklisted, catalog claims no rights
  • commercial: varies (set 2026-10-04): the attribution page names CC BY as commercial-ok and CC BY NC as personal use only, so this is the per-file case. Still open: whether any tracks carry ND (the page shows only BY and BY-NC), and each track's licence must be read on its own page, so the entry stays needs-review

Evidence

  • Live attribution page (2026-08-24): "CC BY used free commercially"
  • Live attribution page (2026-08-24): "CC BY NC may be used freely for personal use"
  • Live attribution page (2026-08-24): usable in "YouTube videos, remixes, mobile apps, games, and more"
  • Live homepage (2026-08-24): "Free Music for YouTube" / "social media videos"
  • Live attribution page (2026-10-04): "Depending on which Creative Commons license the artist has designated: CC BY used free commercially ; tracks licensed CC BY NC may be used freely for personal use."; "Be sure to give credit in the video or app or game itself."
  • Live homepage (2026-10-04): "Looking for music for a video, app, game, podcast"; "It's free to use if you give us credit"
