catalog: puzzle, card and board-game art, and chiptune music (task test)
Two new task tests walked through the catalog: a 2D pixel platformer
and a mobile puzzle game. The platformer mostly passed; the puzzle
game failed on its core art. Five sources, each read at source and
downloaded to measure contents on 2026-09-23 (nothing committed but
metadata).
- kenney-puzzle-pack-2 (CC0): 814 PNGs of tiles, balls, paddles,
pipes, coins and particles, SVG and XML. Not match-3 gem art, and
said so. The old puzzle-pack URL is a 404.
- kenney-playing-cards-pack (CC0): pixel-art deck in three sizes.
- kenney-boardgame-pack (CC0): cards, chips, dice, seven colours of
pieces, and 12 CC0 card and dice sounds.
- subspaceaudio-5-chiptunes (CC0): five looping WAV tracks by Juhani
Junkala; CC0 stated on OGA and in the bundled INFO.txt.
- eric-skiff-resistor-anthems (CC-BY-4.0): 18 tracks, games named,
set credit line stored as attribution_string.
"chiptune" used to find only SFX generators; "puzzle", "casual" and
"dice" found nothing. Each now returns these. The music guide gains
two rows and now counts five of eight active sources as credit-free.
Counts 310 -> 315 (2D 50, Audio 30).

CC0 board-game kit: playing cards and backs, poker chips, dice, and pieces in seven colours, with a dozen matching sounds. From 2014, and not pixel art: it ships SVG sources alongside the PNGs.

## Notes
23
+
24
+
-**Measured from the download, 2026-09-23:** 539 PNGs in `Cards`, `Chips`, `Dice` and `Pieces` (Black, Blue, Green, Purple, Red, White, Yellow), SVG sources in `Vector`, XML sprite sheets
25
+
-**Includes sound:** 12 OGG files in `Bonus`, for placing and sliding cards, chips colliding, and dice being shuffled and thrown. Also CC0
26
+
- Also contains `.swf` files from the Flash era. Ignore them
27
+
- For a pixel-art deck, see [kenney-playing-cards-pack](kenney-playing-cards-pack.md)

## Evidence

31
+
- Live Kenney asset page (2026-09-23): "License Creative Commons CC0", "Files 490×", tags "boardgame dice cards", "Released in 2014"
32
+
- Bundled `license.txt` (2026-09-23): "CC0 License (Creative Commons Zero) http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/ You may use these graphics in personal and commercial projects. Credit (Kenney or www.kenney.nl) would be nice but is not mandatory."
A full deck of pixel-art playing cards in three sizes, CC0, from 2020. Enough for solitaire, poker, blackjack or any card game with a standard deck.

+
22
+
## Notes
23
+
24
+
-**Measured from the download, 2026-09-23:** 285 PNGs in `Cards (large)`, `Cards (medium)` and `Cards (small)`, named by suit and rank (`card_clubs_02.png`), plus card backs and a tile sheet with CSV data
25
+
- Pixel art. For non-pixel cards plus chips and dice, [kenney-boardgame-pack](kenney-boardgame-pack.md) is the older set, with SVG sources
26
+
- Card faces only: no table, felt or chips here

## Evidence

- Live Kenney asset page (2026-09-23): "License Creative Commons CC0", "Files 270×", tags "pixel cards boardgame dice", "Released in 2020"

About 800 CC0 sprites for casual puzzle games: coloured tiles and back tiles, balls, paddles, pipes, coins and particle bursts. Built for brick-breaker, pipe-connection and tile-clearing games. The catalog's first dedicated puzzle-game art.

## Notes
23
+
24
+
-**Measured from the download, 2026-09-23:** 814 PNGs in folders by type and colour (`Back tiles`, `Balls/Blue`, `Paddles`, `Pipes/Green`, `Particles yellow`, `Tiles black` and more), plus SVG sources and XML sprite sheets
25
+
- Not match-3 gem art. There are coloured tiles and balls, but no faceted gems; for a Bejeweled-style game this is a starting point, not a finished set
26
+
- Also contains `.swf` files, a leftover of 2015-era Flash workflows. Ignore them
27
+
- Pair with [kenney-ui-pack](kenney-ui-pack.md) for menus and [kenney-interface-sounds](../audio/kenney-interface-sounds.md) for clicks and pops
28
+
- Kenney lists a "Puzzle Pack 1" alongside this; the old `puzzle-pack` URL now returns 404, so this entry is the second pack only
- Bundled `License.txt` (2026-09-23): "License (Creative Commons Zero, CC0) http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/ You may use these graphics in personal and commercial projects. Credit (Kenney or www.kenney.nl) would be nice but is not mandatory."

# Eric Skiff, Resistor Anthems
19
+
20
+
An 18-track album of melodic 8-bit music, CC-BY 4.0, released by the composer "for use in your games, videos, and projects". Against the CC0 [subspaceaudio-5-chiptunes](subspaceaudio-5-chiptunes.md), the trade is a credit line for more than three times the tracks.

+
24
+
-**Credit is required, in a set form:** "Music: Eric Skiff - Song Name - Resistor Anthems - Available at http://EricSkiff.com/music", one per track you use. Put it in the in-game credits
25
+
- 18 MP3 tracks, downloadable one by one or as a single zip from the page
26
+
- Games are named outright in the page's own description, so there is no game-versus-video question here
27
+
- Widely used for about a decade, by the author's account "in thousands of videos, games, student projects". The page says nothing about Content ID; check a track in YouTube Studio before relying on it for a trailer

## Evidence

Five looping chiptune tracks by Juhani Junkala (SubspaceAudio), CC0: Title Screen, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and Ending. A complete small soundtrack for a retro platformer or shooter, and the catalog's first chiptune music; until now "chiptune" found only SFX generators.
20
+
21
+
## Notes
22
+
23
+
-**Measured from the download, 2026-09-23:** five WAV files, 47 MB zipped, plus an `INFO.txt` restating CC0 in the author's words
24
+
- The tracks are sampled from a larger paid pack (400 Indie Game Music Loops on itch.io). Only these five are CC0; the paid pack has its own terms
25
+
- Widely reused: the page's comments list many jam, itch and store games that use it. That is a mark of quality and also a Content ID consideration; see the note in [the audio README](README.md)
26
+
- OpenGameArt is the host; the CC0 statement is both the submission's licence field and the author's own `INFO.txt`, which is stronger than most OGA provenance (see [`docs/provenance.md`](../../docs/provenance.md))
27
+
28
+
## Evidence
29
+
30
+
- Live OpenGameArt submission (2026-09-23): "Author: SubspaceAudio", "License(s): CC0", "Preview: 5 tracks, all seamlessly looping!"
31
+
- Bundled `INFO.txt` (2026-09-23): "These music tracks have been released under CC0 creative commons license. You can do anything you want with these tunes."
32
+
- Same page (2026-09-23): "This music is part of the 400 Indie Game Music Loops pack available from: https://subspaceaudio.itch.io/indie-game-music-loops"
