Question: Support openwrt

I'm using openwrt on banana-pi 3, and heard about your service. Do you plan to support it/support installing it? dotnet is not co-operate, because openwrt is not one of the most standard distros, so for making it to run, one needs to make it self contained all the dependencies.

Thanks for asking. I would suggest that you get docker installed on openwrt and then use the DNS server's docker image. This would be much simpler to manage and you wont have to do anything complex to maintain or upgrade in future.

According to https://openwrt.org/toh/sinovoip/bananapi_bpi-r3 ARM64 CPU is being used so the container approach will work just fine if you install Docker or Podman package in your OpenWRT.

i cannot install a container. it mixes up and disturbing the firewall. the right approach is allowing dependencies included as an option

There are people using it already so any issue you see should have a solution.

Compiling the DNS Server as self-contained has issue since the Apps feature will not work with such a build. Dynamic loading of app DLL files is only possible for the standard way its compiled currently.

If you still want to run it natively then you have to find out how to manually get dotnet to work on banana-pi-3. I don't have that device so cannot really help with that. Once you get dotnet running with required dependencies, the DNS server installer script will work as-is without any issues.

Thats what running as container will solve since everything needed is within the container.

You just need to have a supporting hardware platform as in (if we speak about technitium/dns-server) AMD64, ARM64 or ARM/V7 as seen here:

Along with having docker or podman or similar compatible with the container format to run the container.

So in short install the package for podman in your OpenWRT and then using podman to install and run technitium/dns-server (the ARM64 edition since thats what your current CPU is using).

The DNS Server's installer script uses dotnet's script which supports quite a range of platforms. What errors do you see when you try using the DNS server's installer script? You can check the /opt/technitium/dns/install.log to check for errors. Share anything you find in there. May be getting some missing dependency installed manually could make it work.
