New Chat opens the composer directly with a visible Agent selector beside the workspace below the input. The sidebar Agent menu only filters conversation history, so browsing or filtering another Agent no longer silently changes the next conversation's execution Agent.

ACP Chats prepare a managed chat directory automatically, so choosing Chats stays free of directory prompts and supports both the first message and follow-up messages. Missing managed directories recover without silently changing the configured location; failed preparation has a persistent retry action.

Closes #2462

Design

  • Keep history filtering (filterAgentId), the current execution context (selectedAgentId), and the new-conversation choice (draftStore.agentId) independent. Update the remembered choice only for explicit Agent selection/commands and new-conversation initialization; loading defaults during history navigation cannot overwrite it.
  • All generic new-conversation entry points use the current window's remembered draft Agent, initially DeepChat. Workspace plus/empty-workspace actions supply only the workspace. Remove workspace-recency, active-session, and catalog-order inference; removed or disabled choices fall back to DeepChat.
  • Reuse existing per-Agent drafts, Agent avatars, menus, default-model configuration, and ACP preparation. Preserve explicitly chosen/cleared workspaces and keep existing-session Agent assignments unchanged.
  • Remove the separate Agent welcome-selection page, its unused locale keys/types/test, and the obsolete sidebar onboarding instruction. Anchor onboarding to the Agent selector beside the workspace.
  • Preserve ACP configuration-loading feedback in the Agent selector. Chats do not display a directory-selection prompt. ACP Chats lazily create/reuse the existing managed-directory candidates independently of a custom default project. Recreate a configured managed directory before considering another candidate; when that directory cannot be recreated, persist the managed fallback through the existing default-project setting. Prepare only when the effective directory is missing, including after a later snapshot loses it. Preparation failures leave a retry icon with a hover/focus reason beside the context selectors. Keep Chats selected while using that directory for references, warmup, draft preparation, authentication continuation, and submission. Persist it in the ACP session so follow-up messages satisfy the existing workdir guard. Explain unavailable explicitly selected workspaces and resume preparation when a usable directory is chosen. ACP composers do not query native DeepChat Skill catalogs or active Skills; late native responses are discarded. Runtime Skill validation also excludes ACP identities, including empty selections, while native fail-closed validation remains intact. Expected strict ACP rejection does not produce a validation-failure warning.
  • Distinguish automatic Agent workspace defaults from manual choices so successive Agents apply their own defaults without overwriting an explicit directory choice. Failed session deactivation preserves the active execution Agent.
  • Inline ACP option menus use a compact 20rem (320px) width and shrink to the viewport. Keep every value on one line with ellipsis, expose complete values on hover/keyboard focus through the existing tooltip, and retain vertical scrolling for long catalogs.
  • Place Agent selection beside the workspace below the composer and keep both Agent and model names visible. Order model before mode independently of backend option ordering. Reuse the status bar's existing ACP loading state for the moved selector's warmup feedback.
  • Other value/status controls default to icons and reveal text on hover, keyboard focus, or while their menu is open. Context usage is keyboard-focusable; disabled controls retain visible values. After a reveal animation, keep the focused control inside the scroll viewport. Disabled ACP rows use named button-role tooltip anchors with aria-disabled; their native buttons remain disabled and are hidden from the accessibility tree to avoid duplicate controls. Electron finds the anchor by accessible role instead of parent DOM structure. Use the existing 220ms motion tokens and honor reduced motion. Keep revealed targets stable during pointer traversal, preserve loading/stale indicators, and keep attachment/send actions visible at the edges. Only the central settings region scrolls when space is insufficient.
  • Resolve model-picker icons with the existing substring matcher on the final model-name path segment; hosting namespaces cannot supply a model icon. Apply the same choice to the selected value and menu rows; unknown models keep the provider/API-type fallback. Provider entries retain their existing icons. Known ACP model IDs also use model-family icons, with the generic icon retained for unknown IDs.
  • Add one typed project.ensureChatWorkspace route through the existing preload bridge. It prepares only the fixed managed Chat directory candidates, publishes a new project-snapshot revision, and never changes the custom default project or manual selection. The store waits for that revision before the composer prepares ACP. Existing managed Chat history remains grouped under Chats even with a custom default project. Native DeepChat Chats with an explicit null workspace retain the general tool profile; explicitly selecting the managed directory retains the code profile used by any selected project. No new persisted setting or database migration. A conversation may remain open while excluded by the current sidebar filter.

Validation

  • Formatting, i18n, lint, typecheck, and production compilation passed. The full main suite passed 9,856 tests; all 288 renderer test files / 2,750 tests passed, including the direct-scroll architecture inventory.
  • Two local Electron smoke tests passed: a custom native Agent's first message retains its workspace/browser state; and the ACP stdio fixture covers held warmup, workspace recovery, model menus, compact controls, keyboard/focus, light/dark resize, and reduced motion. The ACP fixture clears the workspace to Chats, checks the actual session/new cwd, retries a failed preparation through its visible control, and completes two turns without native Skill-scope errors.
  • Managed-directory regression tests cover configured-path recreation before another existing candidate, persisted fallback stability, no redundant preparation, recovery when a snapshot loses the path, and persistent failure/retry behavior.
  • Disabled selected ACP values are verified through their accessible button role, disabled state, hover/focus tooltip, blocked activation, and Escape/focus return. Loading cues are verified in the Agent selector and badge; the parent's exposed loading contract remains covered.
  • An isolated copy of the real local profile verified DeepChat and DimCode in Chats with an enabled Send button after entering text. DimCode completed actual preparation in the managed directory. Manual Chats selection and a separate custom default project were preserved.
  • Real custom OpenAI-compatible providers were checked for loaded DeepSeek, Qwen, GLM, and GPT icons. The DimCode catalog and toolbar have wide/narrow and light/dark visual evidence.
  • Real pi ACP initialization remains blocked by a local executable collision: pi resolves to the @simon_he/pi package manager rather than the coding Agent. No global installation was changed.
  • Real-profile probes did not request live model generation; message execution uses local loopback/stdio fixtures. Remote control, sync, hooks, and scheduled jobs are disabled in copied profiles, which are removed after verification. Production compilation and Electron runs use a separate checkout to preserve the development app's output. The existing CI E2E selection is unchanged.

Generated catalogs

Retain the provider database and ACP registry refreshes produced by the normal build, as required by repository guidelines.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Choose an Agent in the new-conversation composer. Your choice carries over to future new conversations, while existing conversations keep their assigned Agent.
    • Filter conversation history by Agent without closing or changing the active conversation.
    • Choose a workspace for a new conversation; manual workspace choices are preserved when switching Agents.
  • Improvements
    • New conversations open directly in the composer. DeepChat is used if the chosen Agent is unavailable.
    • ACP conversations show when configuration is loading or a workspace is unavailable, and prevent sending until a valid workspace is selected.
    • ACP options and chat toolbar controls better accommodate narrow layouts and long choices.
    • Updated Agent download information for supported platforms.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "feat(chat): clarify new conversation Agent choice" matches the main change. The PR adds an Agent selector to the new-chat composer and separates new-conversation Agent choice from sidebar history filtering. The title is specific and concise. It uses a conventional commit prefix and names the affected area (chat) and the changed behavior (new conversation Agent choice). It does not mention the sidebar filter split or the removal of the Agent welcome page, but it does not need to cover every detail.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #2462 is the only active directly linked issue. The PR makes the new-conversation Agent visible in the composer through the Agent selector in NewThreadPage. The selector updates draftStore.agentId. WindowSideBar now updates only filterAgentId, so history filtering does not change the execution Agent. New-conversation targeting uses the remembered draft Agent across entry points, with DeepChat fallback for unavailable choices. Workspace actions provide workspace intent without workspace-recency inference. Existing-session Agent assignments remain unchanged. The reported renderer and Electron tests cover selector changes, filtering, drafts, entry points, fallback, and first-message execution.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changed files remain connected to #2462. The welcome-page removal, onboarding changes, locale and type updates, and route changes support moving Agent selection into the composer. ACP preparation, workspace recovery, Skill-scope handling, and project-selection source tracking support reliable selection of non-DeepChat Agents. Toolbar, status-bar, menu, accessibility, and layout changes make the new selector usable and preserve existing composer controls. Tests cover the changed behavior. The documentation and ACP registry refresh are generated or feature-specific outputs described by the PR. No demonstrated unrelated product change is present.

Reviewed at 55f41d7f3b4273718ae017a286fb9efa2d818035.

The direction is right: the sidebar is now only a history filter, New Chat always opens the composer, and one remembered draft Agent drives every generic entry point. The change removes the hidden workspace-recency/active-session inference, deletes the welcome page, and adds no new IPC or persistence. CI is green at this head (static, main, renderer, build, package check).

One functional issue: the first Agent's default workspace sticks after switching Agents

If two Agents have different default project directories, switching from one to the other on the New Thread page keeps the first Agent's directory.

Reproduce:

  1. Global default is /g; Agent A defaults to /a; Agent B defaults to /b.
  2. Open New Chat with A. The workspace becomes /a.
  3. Select B in the composer selector. The workspace stays /a; B's /b never applies.

Cause: when an Agent's default differs from the global default, the code records it as manual (src/renderer/src/pages/NewThreadPage.vue:1506). The new preservation guards then treat it as a user choice and skip all later Agent defaults. Preserving a workspace that the user actually picked is correct; the source flag just needs to distinguish "applied from an Agent default" from "picked by the user" (an agent source, or comparing against the previous Agent's default).

Smaller notes

  • startNewConversation changes agentStore.selectedAgentId before closeSession succeeds (src/renderer/src/stores/ui/session.ts:1290-1293). If deactivate() fails, the existing conversation stays open but the UI now reports the new-conversation Agent. This predates the PR; moving the assignment after a successful close would make the failure path honest.
  • On New Thread, the #agent slot replaces the ACP badge, so the ACP config loading spinner (src/renderer/src/components/chat/ChatStatusBar.vue:9-18) no longer appears there. Either surface the loading state in the selector or keep the spinner.
  • No over-engineering and no test bloat. Removing the old inference rules and the welcome page is a real simplification. The sidebar behavior change (filter only) is a visible UX change, but the PR explains it with BEFORE/AFTER and it matches #2462.
  • The large provider catalog diff is a normal generated build artifact and sits in its own commit, which is fine under the repo rule.

Detail

  • src/renderer/src/pages/NewThreadPage.vue:1506 — Agent default project is recorded as manual.
  • src/renderer/src/stores/ui/session.ts:1290 — selected Agent changes before closeSession.
  • src/renderer/src/components/chat/ChatStatusBar.vue:9 — ACP badge and its spinner are hidden by $slots.agent.
  • I read the diff against dev at c8b67872b, the affected callers (ChatMainApp, ChatTabView, NewThreadPage, WindowSideBar, Spotlight, the session/agent stores), and the updated tests. I did not re-run the suites locally; GitHub Actions passed at this head.

Delta review at 74680111810f (on top of the previously reviewed 55f41d7f). Both CodeRabbit findings and all three notes from my previous review are addressed, and I found nothing blocking in the two new commits.

What changed

1. An Agent's default workspace no longer sticks after switching Agents (src/renderer/src/pages/NewThreadPage.vue, src/renderer/src/stores/ui/project.ts)

The Agent default directory is now recorded with its own agent source instead of manual, so the preservation guards no longer mistake it for a user choice. Switching A → B re-applies B's default, then the global default, then nothing. A directory the user picked themselves, including an explicit clear, still wins. The project store also keeps an agent-sourced directory across snapshot refreshes. Covered for both the "next Agent has a default" and "next Agent has none" branches.

2. Failed deactivation keeps the current execution Agent (src/renderer/src/stores/ui/session.ts:1249-1293)

agentStore.setSelectedAgent now runs only after sessionClient.deactivate() succeeds, and inside closeSession after the active session is reset. A failure leaves the open conversation and the selected Agent as they were.

3. ACP warmup feedback is back in the composer selector (src/renderer/src/components/chat/ChatStatusBar.vue, src/renderer/src/pages/NewThreadPage.vue)

The #agent slot receives loading, so the selector shows a spinner and aria-busy while ACP configuration loads instead of hiding the badge's spinner with no replacement. A missing or invalid ACP workdir now gets a visible role="status" line under the project picker; submission was already blocked in that state, it was only invisible.

4. ACP identities stay out of local Skill routes (src/renderer/src/components/chat-input/composables/useSkillsData.ts, ChatInputBox.vue)

isAcpSession passes a null Agent scope, so ACP agents no longer request local Skill catalogs or active Skills, and a late native response cannot populate ACP composer state. ChatPage passes the same flag, so existing ACP sessions are covered too, not only New Chat.

One behavior to confirm

Switching from a DeepChat Agent whose default directory is /a to an ACP agent replaces /a with the global default, or with no directory when no global default exists. That follows the spec (ACP has no per-Agent default), but it means an ACP coding agent starts in a different folder than the Agent you just left. If that is intended, nothing to change. If not, the ACP branch should keep an agent-sourced directory the same way it keeps a default one (NewThreadPage.vue:1479-1490).

Minor

  • The project-path rule is now written out twice, with nested ternaries (NewThreadPage.vue:1479-1533). It reads clearly today; a small helper would keep it that way if another source state appears.
  • 746801118 mixes a generated ACP registry bump with the verification notes. Harmless under a squash merge, just harder to read per commit.
  • The new 45-acp-composer-warmup spec is not in the CI subset (test/e2e/playwright.ci.config.ts runs three specs), so it runs locally only, like most of the suite.

Verification

CI at 74680111: PR Check and Package Check passed, including static, test-main, test-renderer, build, and package check. CodeRabbit is still running. I read the delta 55f41d7f..74680111, the affected files in full at the head, the updated tests, and both CodeRabbit threads; I did not re-run the suites or the new Electron spec locally.

Delta review of 265db9cfd and dfe3411c7, on top of 746801118 (already reviewed).

Summary: the option menu now sizes to its content, keeps each option on one line, and shows the full value in a tooltip. The code change is small, matches the spec, adds no dependency, and has no destructive behavior. No blocking issues — the notes below are about polish and how the change is packaged.

  1. Disabled rows now react to hover like enabled rows. Showing a tooltip on the selected row requires that row to keep receiving pointer events, so disabled:pointer-events-none had to go. The side effect is that every disabled row (read-only ACP config, in-flight save) still carries hover:bg-muted/60 hover:text-foreground, so the menu highlights rows that do nothing when clicked. Scope the hover styles with enabled:, or add disabled:hover:bg-transparent disabled:hover:text-muted-foreground.

  2. Two different ways to reveal the full label inside one popover. The header uses a native title, each option uses the tooltip component. With the real DimCode catalog that means 412 tooltip instances mounted each time the menu opens. Pick one approach: either use the native title for options too, or use the component for both. If the viewport-constrained tooltip is a hard requirement for options, write that into the spec so the header can follow later.

  3. text-white overrides the shared tooltip color. TooltipContent already applies text-primary-foreground on a bg-black/75 surface in both themes, so the extra text-white does nothing today and will drift once the shared component changes. Drop it unless a theme actually renders the base color wrong.

  4. The test that proves this does not run in CI. test/e2e/specs/45-acp-composer-warmup.smoke.spec.ts is not in playwright.ci.config.ts testMatch (only 01, 04 and 19 run there), so none of the new assertions execute on PRs. The spec also pairs width with theme (1280 + light, 480 + dark), so 480 + light and 1280 + dark are never exercised. Either add a component-level assertion for the tooltip and hover state, or put the spec in CI.

Process note: dfe3411c7 contains both the generated providers.json refresh and the two docs files, while the docs describe the fix from 265db9cfd. The refresh itself is clean — same 235 provider ids, 12 more models, nothing removed, valid JSON — so the data is fine. But it is 275k changed lines, which hides the feature in the PR diff. Keep generated refreshes in a commit of their own, and put docs next to the code they describe. The previous round flagged the same pattern for the ACP registry bump.

Docs nit: the plan says "Hover and keyboard focus show the full value". The selected row is disabled and cannot take keyboard focus, so only hover works there. Worth adjusting the sentence.

Sources for the above: diff 746801118..dfe3411c7; src/renderer/src/components/chat/ChatStatusBar.vue:43-95 at the new head; src/shadcn/components/ui/tooltip/TooltipContent.vue; test/e2e/playwright.ci.config.ts; resources/model-db/providers.json compared structurally against 746801118.

What I checked: the full delta, the touched files at the new head, the provider catalog structurally (235 → 235 providers, 10,806 → 10,818 models, no removals), and the spec/plan against the implementation. I did not run the suites or the Electron spec locally; CI for dfe3411c7 was still pending when this was written.

Formal request-changes is not possible here because this account authored the PR, so this comment is the review record.

Delta review of c5e9e2f9a, the only commit added since dfe3411c7 (reviewed at 07:14Z).

Verdict: nothing blocking in this delta. The composer controls now stay on one row, attachment and send keep their space at the edges, and the middle region only scrolls when the minimum widths cannot fit. CI at this head is fully green (static, test-main, test-renderer, test-native-memory, build, package check). I found no functional regression in the change.

What this commit does

  • ChatInputToolbar.vue: drops flex-wrap, makes the attach and action clusters non-shrinking, and turns the settings slot into the only horizontally scrollable region (overflow-x-auto with the scrollbar hidden). Adds data-testid="chat-input-toolbar".
  • ChatStatusBar.vue: one row instead of a wrapping row; left cluster is min-w-44 flex-1; Agent/model/ACP/reasoning chips get min-w-14 shrink (the ACP option chip gets min-w-8); the right cluster is shrink-0; the option popover becomes a fixed 20rem (w-80) instead of growing to 32rem; the reasoning label truncates.
  • NewThreadPage.vue: the composer Agent chip gets min-w-14 shrink.
  • Spec and plan now describe the one-row rule, the 20rem menu, and the scroll fallback. The Electron spec covers 1280/800/480, checks vertical alignment, that the outer toolbar does not overflow, that focusing the last settings control brings it fully into view, and that the menu stays at or below 320px.

Two things to look at (both non-blocking)

  1. A clipped status bar has no visual hint. The scroll container hides its scrollbar, and the fallback only triggers when the sum of minimum widths exceeds the space. That is unlikely at 900px, the main window minimum, but reachable in the floating chat window, whose minimum width is 460px (src/main/desktop/window/FloatingChatWindow.ts:34). When it does trigger, a mouse-only user cannot move the region sideways: no visible scrollbar and no horizontal wheel. The right end (context meter, session settings) stays unreachable until something is focused with the keyboard. The spec proves focus reveals the control, so this is discoverability, not a hard lock. Options: keep a thin scrollbar, add an edge affordance, or lower the minimum widths so 460px fits without scrolling.

  2. The ACP option chip can collapse to just a chevron. min-w-8 (32px) minus px-2 (16px) and the 12px chevron leaves no room for the label, so at the narrowest layout the chip shows only the chevron, while every other chip keeps a 56px floor. If that is the deliberate trade-off for fitting three options plus the Agent badge on one row, fine; otherwise use min-w-14 here too and let the row scroll earlier.

Still open from the previous review (not caused by this commit)

  • Rows disabled by read-only state or an in-flight save still carry hover:bg-muted/60 hover:text-foreground, so they highlight on hover while clicking does nothing.
  • TooltipContent on the options still adds text-white on top of the shared text-primary-foreground.
  • Full values are still revealed two ways in one menu: native title on the trigger and header, tooltip component on each option (412 tooltip instances mount with the real DimCode catalog).
  • test/e2e/specs/45-acp-composer-warmup.smoke.spec.ts is still not in test/e2e/playwright.ci.config.ts (testMatch covers only 01, 04 and 19), so none of these layout assertions run on pull requests.

Test notes

  • The toolbar check proves the outer container does not overflow, but the element that actually scrolls is the settings div; the test proves keyboard focus reveals the last control, not that a pointer can scroll the region.
  • toolbar.locator(':scope > div').nth(1) depends on the settings slot staying the second direct child. Fine for this markup, but it will break quietly if another wrapper is added.
  • The fixture now sends usage_update and advertises the Lody usage capability so the context meter renders. Test-only, consistent with the ACP payloads used elsewhere.

What I checked

Diff dfe3411c7..c5e9e2f9; ChatInputToolbar.vue and the changed regions of ChatStatusBar.vue at the new head; the slot wiring at NewThreadPage.vue:90-145; test/e2e/specs/45-acp-composer-warmup.smoke.spec.ts; playwright.ci.config.ts; window minimum widths; the earlier review threads. I did not run the suites or the Electron spec locally.

Delta review of 7d20497c9, the only commit since c5e9e2f9a (reviewed at 07:34Z).

Verdict: one item should be fixed before merge. The new icon-first toolbar is consistent and the Agent/model ordering is right, but hidden values lose a reliable reveal path, and one of those is a new regression.

What changed

  • Agent selector moved next to the workspace selector below the composer; the status bar hides its own badge here (showAgentBadge=false).
  • Composer status controls are icon-only by default; values appear on hover, keyboard focus, or while their menu is open. Model stays expanded. ACP inline options are sorted model → mode → others and get category icons.
  • New hover-reveal plumbing in ChatInputToolbar (pointer tracking, data-composer-revealed, :deep CSS), plus e2e coverage for layout, hover, keyboard, and reduced motion.

Should fix

  1. Context usage can no longer be read with a keyboard. context-occupancy is the only .composer-control that is a plain div; it has no tabindex, so :focus-visible never matches. Before this commit the meter and percentage were always visible; now they are behind hover only. The spec says keyboard focus reveals every value. Add tabindex="0" plus a focus style, or keep the percentage visible in the compact state.
  2. Disabled ACP options have no reveal path. When acpConfigReadOnly is true (no active ACP session, or config still loading) or a save is in flight, the trigger is a native disabled button. Chromium does not deliver hover to disabled controls, so the pointer handler never sets data-composer-revealed, and title on disabled buttons is unreliable in Chromium. Mode/permission values become icon-only with no way to inspect them. Wrap disabled triggers in a non-disabled element, reveal from CSS :hover on the button itself, or keep the label when the control is disabled.

Non-blocking

  • The reveal accumulates: every control the pointer crosses stays expanded until the pointer leaves the toolbar. The new test asserts this on purpose (the first control stays open while the last is hovered). Sweeping toward Send can open the whole row and push the settings region into horizontal scroll. If that is intended, fine; revealing one control at a time would be simpler and remove most of the pointer-tracking code.
  • .composer-control and .composer-control-details are now a contract: the styles exist only in ChatInputToolbar.vue's scoped :deep rules, while ChatStatusBar, McpIndicator, and AcpSessionStatus supply the markup. Rendering any of them outside that toolbar would leave every label permanently collapsed. Put the contract in a shared stylesheet or a small shared component, and state the requirement.
  • ChatStatusBar still declares the agent slot and now also exposes isAcpConfigLoading; NewThreadPage uses only the prop/expose path. One of the two mechanisms is dead.
  • The new e2e assertions live in spec 45, which is not in playwright.ci.config.ts testMatch, so none of them run on pull requests. toHaveCount(6) also hardcodes the fixture's control count; a content-based assertion would survive adding a control.

What I checked

Diff c5e9e2f9a..7d20497c9, the changed components in context, slot wiring for both callers, the ACP read-only state, and the new e2e/renderer tests. CI at this head is green (static, test-main, test-renderer, build, package check). I did not run the suites locally.

Delta review of 275f544a6, the only commit added since 7d20497c9 (reviewed at 08:55Z).

Verdict: nothing blocking. The model picker and the ACP model control now pick their icon from the model ID instead of always showing the provider icon. The lookup prefers the last path segment, keeps the provider/API-type fallback, and leaves provider entries alone. CI at this head is fully green. This is a comment rather than an approval or request-changes because this account authored the PR, and GitHub does not allow either on your own PR.

What changes for users

  • Model picker rows and the selected value use the model family icon: deepseek-chat shows DeepSeek, openrouter/google/gemini-3.1-pro shows Gemini, gpt-5 shows OpenAI.
  • An ID that matches nothing keeps the old provider or API-type icon.
  • In an ACP session, the model control shows the family icon when the current model ID is recognised, and keeps the CPU icon otherwise.

Notes (none blocking)

  1. The second lookup pass uses the whole model ID, so a known brand in the namespace wins over the real provider. openrouter/some-new-model gets the OpenRouter icon even when the model is served by a custom provider. The spec says unknown models fall back to the provider icon; either drop the full-ID pass or state in the spec that a namespace can supply the icon. ChatStatusBar.vue:1830-1838
  2. Matching is substring-based, so arbitrary custom IDs can be branded. The fixture rename from custom-openai-compatible to custom-provider-uuid is correct for keeping the API-type fallback test meaningful, but it also demonstrates the new behavior: a custom ID such as my-openai-compatible-endpoint no longer shows the provider icon. That is acceptable if intended, but it should be a known consequence rather than an accident. test/renderer/components/ModelIcon.test.ts:235
  3. The resolved icon key is passed back in as model-id to ModelIcon. The component then resolves it a second time and looks up providers and agents by that key, so the prop no longer holds a real model ID. It works today and the result is still correct; a dedicated prop or a short comment would keep the contract honest. ChatStatusBar.vue:43-50
  4. Test weight. The 39-line unit test already covers the deepseek, gemini and unknown cases. e2e spec 41 repeats that mapping with four configured models inside the workspace/browser-continuity test, and neither spec 41 nor 45 is in playwright.ci.config.ts, so CI does not run them. One namespaced case, or a dedicated icon spec, would give the same evidence with less noise.

Detail

  • src/renderer/src/components/chat/ChatStatusBar.vue:43-51 — ACP model control: ModelIcon when the current value resolves, CPU Icon otherwise.
  • ChatStatusBar.vue:1830-1838 — last path segment first, then the full ID, then the provider fallback.
  • ChatStatusBar.vue:232 and :2144 — picker rows and the selected value use the same resolver.
  • test/renderer/components/ChatStatusBar.test.ts:2917 — family mapping and unknown-model fallback.
  • test/e2e/specs/41-new-session-workspace.smoke.spec.ts:119, test/e2e/specs/45-acp-composer-warmup.smoke.spec.ts:118 — smoke coverage, plus focusing the real window before hover assertions.
  • Docs updated in docs/features/new-conversation-agent-selection/{plan,spec}.md.

CI at 275f544a6 is green: static, test-main, test-renderer, test-native-memory, build and package check. This commit contains no generated catalog files, unlike the two previous rounds.

Reviewed the delta at 4466a29a0, on top of 275f544a6 (reviewed at 09:35Z).

Verdict: one blocking item. CI is red because of this commit, so this needs a fix before merge. GitHub does not allow the author to request changes on their own PR, so this comment carries the blocking verdict.

Blocking: the scroll-architecture test now disagrees with the code

keepFocusedControlVisible() calls control.scrollIntoView(...) in ChatInputToolbar.vue. test/renderer/composables/chat/chatScrollArchitecture.test.ts inventories every direct renderer scroll call made outside useChatScrollController.ts, and it now finds 9 files instead of the 8 listed in allowedDirectScrollWrites. That single test is what turns test-renderer red at this head; the same check was green at 275f544a6, so this commit introduced it.

Either add the new call to the allowlist with a one-line reason — it scrolls the composer's own settings strip, the same rationale already written for ChatInputBox.vue — or send the scroll through the chat scroll controller if that is the ownership you want. The inventory exists to force that decision, so leaving it stale is not an option.

The rest of the delta is sound

  • Disabled option rows: wrapping the natively disabled button in a focusable span keeps the action disabled while making the value reachable by hover and keyboard. disabled:pointer-events-none with enabled:hover: is the correct way to keep hover styling off the disabled button.
  • Icon resolution now matches the spec: only the final model-ID segment can select an icon, so openrouter/opaque-model falls back to the provider instead of borrowing OpenRouter's brand. Unknown IDs still fall back to providerId || 'anthropic'.
  • Removing the agent slot and the !$slots.agent guard is consistent with that removal; no consumer remains in src/.
  • The docs updates describe the behavior that the code actually has, and the added tests cover the two edge cases that mattered: a namespaced unknown ID and a namespaced ACP model ID.

Non-blocking notes

  1. The focusable span around a disabled row has no role or aria-disabled, so it is announced as plain text rather than as a disabled control. Adding aria-disabled="true" would make the semantics match the visual state.
  2. The ACP loading test now asserts wrapper.vm.isAcpConfigLoading instead of rendered output. Acceptable after removing the slot, but the user-visible loading cue now lives in the moved Agent selector, so a test at that surface would protect more of the behavior.
  3. selectedOption.locator('..') pins the smoke test to the new wrapper DOM shape. Fine as a fixture assumption, but it will break quietly if the wrapper changes.

Scope and verification

  • Diff reviewed: 275f544a6..4466a29a0 — 7 files, 149 insertions, 54 deletions.
  • CI at this head: static pass, build pass, test-main pass, test-renderer fail (only the scroll architecture test).
  • I did not run the suites locally; the attribution above is from the previous head's green run versus this head's failing run plus a direct inventory of renderer scroll calls.

Delta review of de1630f51, the only commit added since 4466a29a0 (reviewed at 10:13Z).

Verdict: nothing blocking. The item that blocked the previous round is fixed, CI is green at this head, and the PR is ready to merge from a review standpoint. This is a comment rather than a request-changes or an approval because this account authored the PR, and GitHub does not allow either action on your own pull request.

What changed

One file, two lines: test/renderer/composables/chat/chatScrollArchitecture.test.ts now allows scrollIntoView in ChatInputToolbar.vue, with a comment explaining why. That list exists so every renderer file that scrolls something outside the chat scroll controller has to be declared and justified. It was out of date, and that was the single cause of the red test-renderer run.

Why registering the scroll is the right fix

The call at ChatInputToolbar.vue:276 moves the composer's own settings strip, the horizontally scrollable row of controls, so the focused control is fully visible after its label expands on hover or keyboard focus. It never moves the message list, which stays owned by useChatScrollController. ChatInputBox.vue is already on that list for the same reason: it scrolls the composer itself. Routing this call through the chat controller would put the composer under a controller that owns the message viewport, so keeping it local and declaring it is correct.

Verification

  • vitest run test/renderer/composables/chat/chatScrollArchitecture.test.ts at de1630f51: 1 passed.
  • The registered kind matches the code: the component has exactly one scrollIntoView call and no other direct scroll write.
  • CI at de1630f51: static, test-main, test-renderer, test-native-memory, build, package and pr-required all succeeded.

Still open, none blocking, unchanged from the previous rounds

  1. A disabled ACP option row is wrapped in a focusable span so hover and keyboard can reveal its value, but the span has no role and no aria-disabled. A screen reader lands on an element that announces nothing and does not learn that the option cannot be chosen. ChatStatusBar.vue:88
  2. The ACP configuration-loading tests assert wrapper.vm.isAcpConfigLoading instead of the rendered trigger. Eleven assertions in that block now depend on a component internal, so renaming or moving the internal breaks tests that are supposed to protect the behavior users see. test/renderer/components/ChatStatusBar.test.ts:3028 and the following cases.
  3. The warmup e2e finds the trigger through selectedOption.locator('..'), which assumes the parent element is the trigger and the value sits exactly one level inside it. Wrapping the value in another element later breaks the test for no product reason. test/e2e/specs/45-acp-composer-warmup.smoke.spec.ts:287

None of these three affect behavior today. They are cleanup candidates, not merge blockers.

Scope of this delta
  • 4466a29a0..de1630f51: 1 file changed, +2/-0.
  • No renderer component, main process, preload, IPC, contract or locale change, so there is no UI surface to re-check.
  • The full PR remains as described in the earlier reviews: the new-conversation Agent choice, the history filter separation, the one-row composer toolbar, and the model-ID icon lookup.

NewThreadPage.vue only renders new-thread-acp-workdir-status for an existing-but-invalid directory. isAcpWorkdirMissing still feeds isAcpWorkdirUnavailable, so the same state still blocks submit. The difference is that nothing tells the user why:

  1. On New Thread, keep the workspace on Chats and select an ACP agent.
  2. Type a message.
  3. Send stays disabled. There is no status line, no tooltip, and the placeholder is the generic one.

The removed line was the only explanation for this state. Screen-reader users now get a disabled button with no reason at all. Keeping Chats free of a directory prompt is a valid design choice; leaving the block unexplained is not.

Smallest fix that keeps the empty Chats state clean: show a one-line hint only after the composer has input, for example "Select a workspace to send with ". A tooltip on the workspace trigger is the other option, but it is less discoverable. Either way, the message should only appear for an ACP agent; DeepChat + Chats is unaffected.

Test gap

The new unit and Electron tests assert that the status line is absent, but not that the state is still blocked. Add one assertion to the new test: after selecting Chats, send remains disabled and ensureAcpDraftSession is not called. Without it, a future change could enable sending without an ACP workdir and these tests would still pass.

Checked

  • The code change is minimal and matches the updated spec; there is no over-design or unrelated edit.
  • An existing invalid directory still shows the localized path reason.
  • oxfmt --check passes on the changed files.
  • test/renderer/components/NewThreadPage.test.ts passes (51 tests).
  • CI at 280f88c68 passes: static, build, test-main, test-renderer, test-native-memory, package checks.

Source

  • src/renderer/src/pages/NewThreadPage.vue:244 — status line is now invalid-only.
  • src/renderer/src/pages/NewThreadPage.vue:721 — isAcpWorkdirMissing still blocks via isAcpWorkdirUnavailable (:739).
  • src/renderer/src/pages/NewThreadPage.vue:1164 — submit returns early when the workdir is unavailable.
  • src/renderer/src/components/chat/ChatInputToolbar.vue:313 — send tooltip is always "Send", with no workdir variant.
  • docs/features/new-conversation-agent-selection/spec.md — "ACP Preparation And Scope".
  • test/renderer/components/NewThreadPage.test.ts:895, test/e2e/specs/45-acp-composer-warmup.smoke.spec.ts:336 — new assertions.

Delta review of 29bb05b89 (fix(chat): prepare ACP Chats workspace), the only commit since 280f88c68 (reviewed at 11:18Z). This replaces "explain why send is blocked" with "make send work": ACP + Chats now prepares a managed workspace, so the first message and follow-ups go through. The route, the versioned snapshot, the renderer fallback, and the two-turn smoke test line up. Two things still need work; the first is a logic bug.

Changes requested: Chats can silently pick a different folder than the configured one

ensureChatWorkspace() reuses the first existing managed candidate and gives no priority to the configured default. If the default project is itself a managed candidate but its folder is missing, it is ignored:

  1. Set defaultProjectPath to ~/DeepChat (a managed candidate), then delete ~/DeepChat.
  2. Open New Thread with an ACP agent and Chats selected.
  3. getDefaultChatWorkspacePath() returns ~/Documents/DeepChat if it exists; otherwise ensureChatWorkspace() creates it.

The default project setting still says ~/DeepChat, but Chats conversations are now created in a different folder. If the user later recreates ~/DeepChat, the configured path is preferred again and defaultChatWorkspacePath switches back, so the chats created in the meantime leave the Chats group and appear as a separate workspace. ensureDefaultWorkspace() already handles this by putting the configured default first; ensureChatWorkspace() should do the same.

Still silent when preparation fails

The happy path is fixed, but the unexplained blocked state is still reachable:

  • ensureChatWorkspace() rejects (for example, no writable Documents, Home, or user-data directory). The toast fires once at selection time; on the next attempt, Send is disabled with no status line, no tooltip, and the generic placeholder.
  • The directory is deleted while New Thread stays open. defaultChatWorkspacePath becomes null on the next snapshot, but the ensure watcher only depends on isAcpSelectedAgent && !selectedProjectPath, so it never retries.

Suggested fix: also depend on composerWorkspacePath in the ensure watcher (retry when it goes null while an ACP agent is selected), or keep the one-line hint for isAcpWorkdirMissing after a failed attempt. Right now only isAcpWorkdirInvalid renders a status line (NewThreadPage.vue:244).

Nits

  • ensureChatWorkspace() repeats bumpSnapshotVersion() + publishEnvironmentsChanged('select', null, version), which notifyEnvironmentProjectionChanged() already does.
  • The ACP branch in validateSkillNamesForAgent throws inside the try, so the expected fail-closed case logs "Failed to validate active skills for Agent X". No current caller passes failClosed: true for ACP (validateSkillNamesForSession hardcodes false), so the throw branch is unreachable today. Moving the check above the try keeps the log clean.
  • ensureChatWorkspace() runs on every New Thread mount with an ACP agent and no project, even when the workspace is already known, so it persists a new snapshot revision each time. Skipping the call when defaultChatWorkspacePath is already set avoids that.
  • aria-label="entry.value" on the wrapper duplicates the visible text. Harmless, but the wrapper already computes the same accessible name from its content.

Checked

  • No over-design: the typed route, client method, and store method follow the existing project contract pattern. No new persisted setting or migration.
  • getDefaultChatWorkspacePath() also changes grouping for users with a custom default: any existing managed folder is treated as Chats. That matches the PR description. The DeepChat-side effect — new Chats conversations now carry a projectDir, so they get the code tool profile instead of general — is consistent with users who have the builtin default, but it deserves a line in the description.
  • oxfmt --check passes on all changed files.
  • test/main/project/projectService.test.ts (36), test/main/agent/deepchat/runtime/toolResolver.test.ts (39), test/renderer/components/NewThreadPage.test.ts (51), and test/renderer/stores/projectStore.test.ts (20) pass locally. The ChatStatusBar suite could not run in the review worktree because acp-extension-core is not installed in the current local node_modules; that import also exists on dev, so this is an environment gap, not this PR. CI at 29bb05b89 is green for static, build, test-main, test-renderer, test-native-memory, and packaging.
  • The new E2E assertions check the actual session/new cwd and complete two turns, which is the right level for this behavior.

Source

  • src/main/project/index.ts:304 — existence-based candidate scan; no precedence for a configured but missing candidate.
  • src/main/project/index.ts:321 — ensureChatWorkspace() creates from the plain candidate list.
  • src/main/project/index.ts:236 — notifyEnvironmentProjectionChanged() duplicates the same bump + publish.
  • src/renderer/src/pages/NewThreadPage.vue:1703 — ensure watcher source; no retry after the workspace is lost.
  • src/renderer/src/pages/NewThreadPage.vue:244 — status line renders only for invalid directories.
  • src/main/agent/deepchat/runtime/toolResolver.ts:1085 — ACP throw inside the try.

Delta review of 1eb93744 (fix(chat): recover managed ACP workspaces), on top of 29bb05b8 reviewed earlier today.

Verdict: approve. Both blocking items from the previous round are fixed, and the new failure path has direct test coverage. No new blocking issue found.

What this round changes:

  1. The configured managed directory now wins. getDefaultChatWorkspacePath() no longer falls through to another managed candidate when the configured one is missing, and ensureChatWorkspace() tries to recreate that path first. If recreation fails, the fallback is written to the default-project setting, so restoring the original folder later cannot move new Chats back and split history. This matches the spec.
  2. A blocked send is explained and recoverable. Preparation runs only when the effective Chats directory is missing. On failure, a retry icon stays next to the context selectors with the reason on hover and keyboard focus; a later snapshot that loses the path triggers preparation again. Send stays disabled until a usable directory exists.
  3. The previous nits are cleaned up. The duplicate version bump/publish now goes through notifyEnvironmentProjectionChanged(), the ACP fail-closed throw no longer logs a misleading validation warning, and each change has a focused test.

Non-blocking notes:

  • Persisting the fallback rewrites defaultProjectPath without an explicit confirmation. It is documented in the spec and plan and only applies to managed folders, so I do not consider it blocking. Users may not notice the relocation because both managed folders are named DeepChat; adding the chosen location to the existing failure/recovery surface would reduce surprise, but it is not required for this PR.
  • ensureChatWorkspace() repeats the candidate-selection logic from ensureDefaultWorkspace(). A shared helper would prevent future divergence; the current duplication is small and readable.

Verification on this head:

  • projectService 38 tests, toolResolver 40 tests, NewThreadPage 53 tests: pass locally.
  • oxfmt --check and oxlint on the changed files: pass.
  • GitHub checks: static, build, test-main, test-renderer, test-native-memory, package-impact: pass.
  • Local typecheck cannot run in the review worktree because acp-extension-core is absent from the local node_modules. CI static passed, so this is an environment gap, not a regression from this PR.

No over-design, no unnecessary test expansion, and no breaking change beyond the documented managed-fallback persistence.
