- Replace `sed -i` (incompatible between BSD and GNU sed) with perl. - Fail fast with `set -euo pipefail` and verify each edit. - Run prerequisite checks once, fast-forward pull automatically. - Install gems after the version bump so docs:build doesn't fail. - Restore lockfiles before bumping the version so local bundler platform changes aren't committed. - Fix existing-tag check (tags are prefixed with `v`). - Commit deprecation.rb changes on major releases. - Print reset instructions on failure; add RELEASE_DRY_RUN.
