Verify: the snapshot in ZATA shows 205.0 Gb. The Verify shows 190.5 Gb.

Two separate things in here, and the first one is not a fault.

The 205.0 GB is the whole image. The 190.5 GB is what Verify actually reads, and it reads less on purpose. Only the part of the stick that cannot change can be compared, and once persistence is set up the area behind the image changes every time you use it. If I compared that too, the check would report a mismatch on a perfectly good stick every single time. So it reads the fixed part, and that is the smaller number.

You are right that nothing tells you this. Two numbers with no explanation look like a bug, and I would have thought the same. I will put a line next to it saying what is being read and why it is smaller.

The second one I cannot reproduce. "The sum file could not be downloaded" does not exist anywhere in the program, I searched the whole source. The messages it can produce about checksums are worded differently, and none of them mention downloading, because nothing gets downloaded during a verify. Can you tell me where exactly that came up, or send the screenshot again with the whole window in it? If it came from the browser while fetching the .sha256 from the release page, that is a different thing altogether and worth knowing about.

I'm sure it didn't come from the browser. Wouldn't I see the browser if it did so?
I put your sha file in the lower rectangle and allowed the program to put its own in the upper and this is what I get.

You were right and I was wrong to point at the browser. That message is not mine at all — it belongs to Mint's own ISO check, the one you get from the right-click menu. It fetches the sums file from an address on Mint's servers, and for an image you built yourself there is nothing there to fetch, so it says exactly that. The sentence sits word for word in Mint's own code and appears nowhere in Mintshot, which is why I could not find it when I went looking.

For an image from Mintshot the check you want is the one the program writes itself. Next to every image there is a file ending in .sha256, and running sha256sum -c on it in that folder answers OK or tells you it differs. That compares the same two numbers you were putting into those two boxes, without anything being downloaded.
