**AL-MIR'ĀH Research Framework** — Q1 Proof of Concept: Root-Cluster Density

Tests whether Arabic words sharing a triconsonantal root cluster more tightly in
embedding space than English words sharing a prefix/suffix.

---

## Setup

**Step 1 — Install dependencies:**
```bash
pip install -r requirements.txt
```

**Step 2 — Download word embedding models:**

*Arabic* — [AraVec](https://github.com/bakrianoo/aravec) (trained on 3.3B tokens):
- Download `full_grams_cbow_300.zip` from the AraVec releases page
- Extract the `.bin` file

*English* — fetched automatically by gensim on first run (`word2vec-google-news-300`, ~1.6 GB)

---

## Run

```bash
python q1_root_cluster_density.py \
--arabic /path/to/full_grams_cbow_300.bin \
--english download \
--output q1_results
```

| Argument | Description |
|---|---|
| `--arabic` | Path to AraVec `.bin` file |
| `--english` | Path to Google News `.bin` file, or `download` to fetch via gensim |
| `--output` | Output directory for results and plots (default: `q1_results`) |
| `--min-words` | Minimum words per family required (default: 3) |

---

## Output

Results are written to `q1_results/`:

| File | Contents |
|---|---|
| `q1_results.json` | Full statistics (intra/cross similarities, Cohen's d, p-values) |
| `q1_similarity_distributions.png` | Histogram of intra- vs cross-root similarities |
| `q1_gap_comparison.png` | Bar chart comparing Arabic vs English gap |
| `q1_arabic_family_heatmap.png` | Per-root cluster density (Arabic) |
| `q1_english_family_heatmap.png` | Per-root cluster density (English) |

**Claim verdict: {claim_verdict}**

Arabic's triconsonantal root-pattern morphology produces a {gap_ratio:.2f}× larger intra-root
clustering gap than English's non-templatic morphology, with a Cohen's d of {ar['cohens_d']:.2f}
(very large effect) vs {en['cohens_d']:.2f} for English.

## Figure 1 — Similarity Distributions

Overlapping histograms of intra-root vs cross-root cosine similarities for each language.
The gap between the two peaks is the core measurement.

![Similarity distributions](fig1_distributions.png)

---

## Figure 2 — Gap Comparison

Bar chart showing the intra−cross gap for each language with ±1 SD error bars.

![Gap comparison](fig2_gap_comparison.png)

---

## Figure 3 — Per-Root Cluster Density

Each bar is the mean intra-family similarity for one root/stem family.
The dashed line is the cross-family baseline. Bars above the dashed line
indicate root families whose members cluster together in embedding space.

![Per-root heatmap](fig3_per_root_heatmap.png)

---

## Figure 4 — Effect Size

Cohen's d and gap (scaled ×10) side-by-side for direct comparison.

![Effect size](fig4_effect_size.png)

---

## Interpretation

Arabic's root-cluster gap ({ar['gap']:.4f}) exceeds English's morphological gap ({en['gap']:.4f})
by a factor of **{gap_ratio:.2f}×**.

This supports **Pillar II** of the AL-MIR'ĀH framework:
> Arabic's triconsonantal root-pattern system imprints a stronger, more
> geometrically regular structure in embedding space than English's affixational
> morphology, consistent with the prediction that Quranic/Classical Arabic
> lexical form carries semantic density not replicated in English equivalents.
