This project was written by a human developer (alvations, of Melon Lab) working with Claude Code, Anthropic's agentic coding tool. This document records who owns the result and points to the terms that say so. It is a plain summary for contributors and reusers, not legal advice; the linked terms are the authoritative source and control if anything here differs from them.
- The code and content in this repository belong to alvations (Melon Lab).
It is released under the Apache License 2.0 (see
LICENSEandNOTICE). - Anthropic does not claim ownership of what Claude produces for you. Under Anthropic's terms, as between you and Anthropic, Anthropic assigns to you all of its right, title, and interest (if any) in the outputs generated for you, and you are responsible for those outputs. Anthropic does not assert copyright over the game's code, its design, its prose, its synthesised audio, its translations, or any other output produced with the tool.
- Using Claude Code does not make Anthropic an owner, co-owner, licensor, or rights-holder of this game.
Anthropic publishes standing terms that assign ownership of outputs to the customer. The relevant published terms:
- Commercial Terms of Service (applies to API and commercial/paid use, including Claude Code used under a commercial/API arrangement): https://www.anthropic.com/legal/commercial-terms These state that, as between the parties, Anthropic assigns to the customer its right, title, and interest in the Outputs, and that Anthropic makes no claim of ownership over Outputs.
- Consumer Terms of Service (applies to consumer Claude.ai / consumer use): https://www.anthropic.com/legal/consumer-terms These likewise provide that, as between you and Anthropic, and to the extent permitted by law, you own the Outputs you create, and Anthropic does not claim ownership of them.
- Usage Policy (Acceptable Use): https://www.anthropic.com/legal/aup
- Privacy Policy: https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy
- Claude Code overview and docs: https://docs.claude.com/en/docs/claude-code and https://www.claude.com/product/claude-code
Whichever set of terms applies to how Claude Code was accessed for this project, both point the same way on ownership: the human customer owns the outputs, and Anthropic does not.
These are limitations of the law and the technology, not carve-outs Anthropic takes for itself:
- Copyrightability. In some jurisdictions, material generated with substantial machine assistance and without sufficient human authorship may not be protectable by copyright at all. Where a work (or part of it) is not copyrightable, "ownership" is moot for that part regardless of any assignment. The human design decisions, selection, arrangement, editing, and original writing throughout this project are the human-authored contribution.
- Non-exclusivity of similar outputs. Anthropic's terms note that outputs are not unique: other users may receive the same or similar outputs from the model. An assignment of Anthropic's interest in your outputs does not stop the model from producing similar text for someone else.
- You are responsible for outputs. The customer, not Anthropic, is responsible for the outputs and for ensuring they do not infringe third-party rights. This project deliberately references no external intellectual property; all names, prose, art, and audio are its own.
- Terms change. The linked pages are the living source of truth; this summary reflects them as understood at the time of writing and may lag later revisions.
- Commits and releases are authored under the copyright holder's identity (alvations / Melon Lab). No AI system is listed as an author or co-author, and no AI model identifier appears in committed code, comments, or history.
- The build method (how the game was made with an AI coding agent) is documented
openly in
MAKING_OF.md; that transparency about process does not change ownership.
You (or anyone forking this under Apache-2.0) can build, ship, sell, and modify
this game. Anthropic has no ownership stake in it. Keep the LICENSE and
NOTICE, keep the SPDX headers, and if in doubt read the linked terms, which
control.
