Integration Readiness

The formatter is ready for integration into existing commands:

Quick Integration Points

  • mug log command
  • mug status command
  • mug branches command
  • mug diff command
  • Clone/push progress displays
  • Error handling throughout
  • Success messages

Integration Steps (Per Command)

Each command needs:

  1. Create CommitInfo/changes/etc from existing data
  2. Create UnicodeFormatter instance
  3. Call appropriate format_xxx() method
  4. Print result

Typical integration: 5-10 lines of code per command.

Usage Example

use mug::ui::UnicodeFormatter;

let formatter = UnicodeFormatter::new(true, true);
let changes = vec![
    ("src/main.rs".to_string(), 'M'),
    ("new.rs".to_string(), 'A'),
];
println!("{}", formatter.format_status("main", &changes));

Output:

╭──────────────────────────────────────┐
│ 🌿 On branch: main
│
│ 📝 Changes:
│   ✏️  src/main.rs
│   ➕  new.rs
╰──────────────────────────────────────┘

For Quick Reference: See FORMATTER_QUICK_REFERENCE.md

For Integration: Read FORMATTER_INTEGRATION.md

For Examples: Run cargo run --example formatter_demo

For Technical Details: Check src/ui/formatter.rs

Configuration Options

The formatter supports three modes:

  1. Full Mode (default)

    UnicodeFormatter::new(true, true)   // Unicode + colors
  2. ASCII Mode (legacy terminals)

    UnicodeFormatter::new(false, false)  // ASCII only
  3. Unicode Only (limited color support)

    UnicodeFormatter::new(true, false) // Unicode, no colors

Performance

  • No runtime overhead - Formatting only on demand
  • Zero memory overhead - Strings built in-place
  • No I/O - Pure string operations
  • Scalable - Works with any size of data

Backward Compatibility

  • ✅ Fully backward compatible
  • ✅ Non-breaking changes
  • ✅ Old code continues to work
  • ✅ Optional integration (not forced)

Next Steps for Adoption

  1. Review BEAUTIFUL_OUTPUT_START_HERE.md
  2. Run demo: cargo run --example formatter_demo
  3. Read FORMATTER_QUICK_REFERENCE.md
  4. Integrate into mug status command first
  5. Expand to other commands
  6. Test with --ascii flag
  7. Ship in next release
