How to determine the version of binary?

Is there any way to determine the version of a binary present in an image? I looked at the code and available command line switches but did not find anything.

I also don't find the version anywhere in the code. With some pointers I might be able to "contribute" a log line in debug level on startup that displays the current version. Any ideas on this?

There's no version baked in. It's built with -buildvcs=false and -s -w and there's no --version flag, so go version -m only shows the Go toolchain and deps, with the module as (devel).

Easiest is matching the hash against the release asset digests:

No match probably means it wasn't from a GitHub release (the copies in AWS base images may be built separately). Adding -X main.version=$(git describe --tags) to the Makefile would be an easy contribution.
