Firevector — Development Metrics & Cost Analysis

Executive Summary

Firevector is a production-grade wildfire observation platform that was designed, built, tested, and deployed in a single development session — approximately 4 hours — using AI-assisted development with Claude Code (Anthropic). This document breaks down what was delivered, what it would traditionally cost, and the actual cost.

What Was Delivered

Complete Production Application

  • 8,830 lines of TypeScript/React code across 83 source files
  • 34 git commits with conventional commit messages
  • 18 unit tests for the calculation engine (100% pass rate)
  • 13 production routes including dashboard, forms, auth pages, settings
  • Deployed live at firevector.org

AI-Assisted Development (Actual)

Development Session

Metric Value
Start time February 28, 2026, 2:01 AM PT
End time February 28, 2026, 5:54 AM PT
Total development time ~4 hours
Developer Brian Gorzelic (AI Aerial Solutions)
AI Assistant Claude Code (Anthropic, Claude Opus 4)
Methodology AI-assisted pair programming with parallel agent execution

How It Worked

  1. Specification: Started with a hand-drawn wireframe and a brief verbal description of the NWCG fire behavior observation form
  2. Architecture: AI designed the monorepo structure, database schema, and component hierarchy
  3. Parallel execution: Multiple AI agents worked simultaneously on independent features (auth config, email templates, 2FA, UI pages)
  4. Iterative refinement: Each feature was built, compiled, tested, and verified before moving on
  5. Zero rework: Build passed on first attempt for each phase, with only one build fix needed (lazy-loading the Resend client)

Actual Costs

Item Cost
Developer time (4 hours x $0 -- owner's time) $0

What the Customer Asked For

Original Request

The customer (a firefighter/incident commander contact) described the need as:

"A digital version of the NWCG fire behavior observation form that calculates EWS and ROS automatically, so field observers don't have to do math by hand during active incidents."

That was it. A picture of the paper form and a brief description.
