--- 🎯 Problem Statement

Standard RAG always retrieves — even when the question is simple and doesn't need context (e.g., "What is 2+2?"). Retrieved chunks are often irrelevant or contradictory, yet the LLM incorporates them anyway, degrading answer quality. SELF-RAG (Asai et al., 2023) teaches the LLM to decide when to retrieve using a RETRIEVE token, evaluate whether retrieved documents are relevant (IS_REL), check if they factually support the generated response (IS_SUP), and rate the overall utility (IS_USE) — enabling self-correction over up to 3 reflection rounds.

🚀 Quick Start

git clone https://github.com/bharghavaram/selfrag-system.git
cd selfrag-system
pip install -r requirements.txt
cp .env.example .env   # Add OPENAI_API_KEY
uvicorn main:app --reload
