I have resumed the GigE implementation. This PR is based on two earlier PRs ( #117 and #198 ). Since those branches had become outdated and had numerous conflicts with the current main. I started from the latest main, manually copied the relevant code, and applied the necessary adjustments.
The original authors of #117 and #198 are credited in the commit messages using Co-authored-by.
