The reachable FAPI session-reverification path forwards each supplied password to
validateUserPassword, and the current path permits incorrect submissions without an upper bound. A caller can continue password guesses within one session. Add a finite server-side per-session counter that rejects or terminates reverification after the configured limit.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Findings below were checked at 419d6338 with local probe tests (jsdom, mocked FAPI responses), not against the real API or in a real browser.

Update: not a blocker. I read clerk_go#22414 at e7f09646 (not run). The API only sends remaining_attempts from password confirmation, so sign-in can't trigger this.
- The limiter is only called from the reverification password step, change password and delete password.
remaining_attempts: 0is only set after the session has ended.- Sign-in's
AccountLockoutWarninghas its own code, keeps the count in the message with no meta, and comes after the password error, inerrors[1].
The client check itself still isn't scoped: a mocked 422 form_password_incorrect with remaining_attempts: 0 calls __internal_handleSessionEnded on any path. That only matters if another endpoint reuses this field later. Other uses were checked with GitHub code search, which may not be exhaustive.

Non-blocking: setError and t are recreated each render, so this effect runs on every render instead of once.
Reproduced:
- 5 keystrokes cause 5 notice reads.
- A notice written after mount shows and is removed after one keystroke.
- With
removeItemmocked as a no-op, the effect loops (201 reads, stopped by the test's cap of 200).
Changing the deps to [] fixed all three, and the tests in SignInPasswordConfirmation.test.tsx still passed.

Question: is this acceptable? A URL with __clerk_password_confirmation_session_ended=<publishableKey>:<Date.now()> shows the "session ended" message with empty storage, and the key is public, so a crafted link can show it. The text is fixed, so it can only mislead. If hosted sign-in on another origin depends on this param, that may be the tradeoff.

Changes in this repo
This PR reads
meta.remaining_attemptsintoClerkAPIError.meta.remainingAttemptsand shows the countdown in the prebuilt components through three new localization keys:unstable__errors.password_confirmation_attempt_remainingunstable__errors.password_confirmation_attempts_remaining(with{{remainingAttempts}})unstable__errors.password_confirmation_session_ended.The API always enforces this limit, so every instance gets this behavior.
