0029's manual check performed: CIDER connects, evals, and nothing hangs
CIDER 2.1.0-snapshot on Emacs 31 connected to bb repl through cider-connect-clj and drove the live pipe: (+ 1 2) -> 3, (def cider-x 30) -> #'user/cider-x with (+ cider-x 12) -> 42 in a later eval, (cfib 20) -> 6765, and trap/out-of-slice outcomes arrived on err. Degraded without cider-nrepl middleware exactly as 0029 §1 predicted when it chose the default stack over hand-rolled ops: eval works, unknown ops answer, nothing hangs.
