Description
Currently, importing an existing SQLite database into Cloudflare D1 requires exporting the database to a SQL dump first, as described in the D1 import/export documentation.
Since D1 is built on SQLite, it would be great to support importing SQLite database files (.sqlite, .sqlite3, .db) directly, without requiring this intermediate conversion step.
Proposed Solution
Allow importing an existing SQLite database file directly using Wrangler, for example:
Ideally, this would handle the necessary conversion and compatibility checks automatically.
Benefits
Additional Context
For projects that generate or maintain SQLite databases locally, the current workflow adds unnecessary complexity. Supporting direct SQLite file imports would make D1 much easier to integrate into existing SQLite-based workflows.
