# Credit-Card-Fraud-Detection
# Credit Card Fraud Detection

A machine learning project focused on detecting fraudulent credit card transactions using advanced data analysis and prediction techniques.

## 📊 Dataset

This project uses the **Credit Card Fraud Detection Dataset** from Kaggle:

**Dataset Link:** [https://www.kaggle.com/datasets/mlg-ulb/creditcardfraud](https://www.kaggle.com/datasets/mlg-ulb/creditcardfraud)

The dataset contains transactions made by credit cards in September 2013 by European cardholders. It presents transactions that occurred over two days, where we have 492 frauds out of 284,807 transactions. The dataset is highly unbalanced, with the positive class (frauds) accounting for 0.172% of all transactions.

### Dataset Features

- **Time**: Number of seconds elapsed between this transaction and the first transaction in the dataset
- **V1-V28**: Principal components obtained with PCA (anonymized features)
- **Amount**: Transaction amount
- **Class**: Target variable (1 for fraudulent transactions, 0 for legitimate transactions)

## 🎯 Project Overview

Credit card fraud is a significant concern in the financial industry, causing billions of dollars in losses annually. This project aims to build a predictive model that can accurately identify fraudulent transactions while minimizing false positives.

### Objectives

- Analyze and understand patterns in credit card transaction data
- Handle highly imbalanced dataset effectively
- Build and evaluate machine learning models for fraud detection
- Achieve high accuracy and recall in identifying fraudulent transactions

## 🛠️ Technologies & Libraries

- **Python**: Primary programming language
- **Pandas**: Data manipulation and analysis
- **NumPy**: Numerical computing
- **Scikit-learn**: Machine learning algorithms and tools
- **Matplotlib/Seaborn**: Data visualization
- **Imbalanced-learn**: Techniques for handling imbalanced datasets

## 🔍 Methodology

1. **Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA)**: Understanding data distribution and patterns
2. **Data Preprocessing**: Handling missing values, feature scaling
3. **Handling Imbalanced Data**: Using techniques like SMOTE, undersampling, or class weights
4. **Model Training**: Training various machine learning algorithms
5. **Model Evaluation**: Using metrics like Precision, Recall, F1-Score, and AUC-ROC
6. **Hyperparameter Tuning**: Optimizing model performance

## 📊 Expected Results

- High recall rate to minimize false negatives (missed fraudulent transactions)
- Balanced precision to reduce false positives
- ROC-AUC score to measure overall model performance
