[BUG/ENHANCEMENT]: Spotify Playlists page exists but is inaccessible (Integrate into Ambient Sanctuary) #1112
Description:
The spotify-playlists.html page exists in the project's frontend/pages/ directory and contains embedded Spotify playlists for reading. However, there is currently no visible way for a user to access this page from the main UI.
Since this feature enhances the reading atmosphere, it would be ideal to integrate a link or button for "Spotify Playlists" inside the existing Ambient Sanctuary widget.
Because of this issue:
Users cannot access the curated Spotify playlists naturally.
The page remains completely hidden unless the URL is typed manually.
A great atmospheric feature is going unused.
Steps to Reproduce
Steps to Reproduce:
Run the project locally.
Go to app.html (Discovery page) or library.html.
Click on the leaf icon at the bottom right to open the Ambient Sanctuary widget.
Observe the available sound options (Rainy Evening, Cozy Fireplace, etc.).
Notice there is no option or link to open the Spotify Playlists.
Check the codebase and observe that spotify-playlists.html is fully implemented and functional.
Expected Behavior
Expected Behavior:
The Ambient Sanctuary widget should include a visible link, button, or toggle (e.g., Reading Playlists) that directs users to the spotify-playlists.html page or opens it as a modal/panel.
Actual Behavior
Actual Behavior:
The Spotify playlists page exists in the codebase but is disconnected from the navigation and UI flows. Users can only access it by manually navigating to /pages/spotify-playlists.html.
Hi! I am a GSSoC '26 contributor and I'd love to work on connecting this hidden page. I have frontend experience and can easily add a "Reading Playlists" button to the Ambient Sanctuary widget. I will test it locally to ensure smooth navigation to spotify-playlists.html without breaking the current widget layout. Please assign this to me if it's available!
I’ve carefully reviewed the issue #1112 and understand the problem being reported. I’d like to request assignment of this task to me under GSSoC ’26.
What I understand:
The issue appears to be related to [briefly describe what the issue is about based on its title/description — e.g., “incorrect behavior in X component” / “data inconsistency in Y flow”]. This is likely caused by [mention root cause: e.g., missing validation, race condition, incorrect logic, etc.].
My planned approach:
Reproduce the issue
Set up the development environment as per the CONTRIBUTING guidelines
Reproduce the reported behavior locally to confirm the root cause
Analyze the codebase
Identify the affected files and functions
Trace the data flow/execution path to pinpoint where things go wrong
Implement the fix
Make minimal, focused changes to resolve the root cause
Ensure backward compatibility and avoid breaking existing functionality
Add proper input validation/error handling where needed
Add tests
Write unit tests (and integration tests if needed) to cover the bug and edge cases
Ensure tests pass locally before opening a PR
Validate and document
Test the fix in multiple scenarios
Update relevant documentation or comments if logic changes
Follow the repo’s code style and contributing guidelines
Timeline:
I can start working on this immediately and aim to open a PR within [ e.g., 2–3 days] after assignment.
I’m a GSSoC ’26 contributor and have experience working with [mention relevant tech: Python, backend, etc.]. I’m committed to delivering a clean, well-tested fix.
