[BUG]: Footer Social Links (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook) Redirect to the Current Page Instead of External Profiles #386

Closed

Description

@Snehashree21

Description

In the Connect section of the footer, the LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook (Library Page) icon links are incorrectly navigating back to the same page the user is currently on instead of opening the respective external social media profile pages. This issue is present across all pages of the site.

Image

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Navigate to any page on https://bibliodrift-dm.netlify.app/
(e.g., Home, Discovery, My Library, Chat, Privacy Policy, etc.)
  2. Scroll down to the footer
  3. Locate the Connect section (right area of the footer)
  4. Click on the LinkedIn icon — observe the URL gets # appended, no external navigation occurs
  5. Repeat for the Instagram icon — same behaviour

Expected Behavior

Each social media icon in the footer should open the corresponding external profile in a new tab:

Icon Expected Destination Status
LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/... ❌ Broken
Instagram https://www.instagram.com/... ❌ Broken
GitHub https://github.com/... ✅ Working

Actual Behavior

Clicking the LinkedIn or Instagram icons appends # to the current page URL and keeps the user on the same page. No external navigation occurs. This happens on every page of the site.
Example:

On /discovery → clicking LinkedIn stays on https://bibliodrift-dm.netlify.app/discovery#
On /library → clicking Instagram stays on https://bibliodrift-dm.netlify.app/library#

Hi @devanshi14malhotra, could you please share your or BiblioDrift LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook profile URLs so I can link them in the footer?
