When testing left/right speaker the sound is played from both

What Happened?

Tried this in Demo mode on elementary daily.
Tried to test left and right speakers in Test popover. But sound comes from both speakers.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open popover
2. Click on left or right test button

Expected Behavior

Sound should come only from left or right speaker.

Just installed version 8.0.2 on MacBook Pro 7,1 and can confirm that the audio output from the Mac speakers as well as the Analogue Audio output from a Focusrite Solo USB device is mono and not stereo.

I am also experiencing this on Elementary OS 8.1.

It does seem to me like this bug should be higher priority or else the "Front left", "Front right" speaker test should be removed/hidden until it is fixed, as checking that stereo speakers work is kind of the whole reason for this feature to exist in the first place.

On my fresh install of Elementary OS 8.1 on a new (to me) thin client plugged into a TV, I was worried the sound output was broken or coming out through the TV speakers instead of the stereo speakers since I was hearing sound coming out of both sides of the console area instead of just through the one speaker I thought the settings were testing. I had to check by playing music I knew well enough to differentiate left and right channels in order to identify that the speakers were, in fact, all working fine, but the speaker test was playing in mono.
