Support for components

It would be nice if showDist were to show the width and height of a selection, even if that selection was completely made up of components. This would probably require taking component transformation into account (or decomposing an invisible copy of a component) in order to get an accurate readout.

Related: Currently, if you have a contour and a component selected, the displayed width and height ignores the component. This is somewhat misleading, depending on how “real” components are in one's mind.

Probably the simplest way to achieve this would be to use a decomposePen, but I am afraid this might result in a performance hit. This is not dismissing your idea, just thinking about potential caveats.
On the other hand – component.bounds exists – maybe that’s all we need.
