This project is dormant.

The last time anyone heard from Graham Garner was at the start of 2020. We all hope he is OK.

For the sake of clarity, by "heard from" I mean this posting on Discord:

The project has been forked to SensorsIot/IOTstack. If you want to open an issue, please go there.

The decision to fork was also taken on Discord:

If you are running IOTstack checked out from gcgarner/IOTstack and want to switch to the current project, please follow the migration instructions.

Also make sure you carefully review the list of required-system-patches.

I believe the maintainers of the fork intend to re-merge with gcgarner/IOTstack if Graham resurfaces so the project may eventually come back here.

@Paraphraser His last commit was on 25th April. I wouldn't call that the start of the year?

With regards to re-merging I wonder how that would work out as I noticed the whole project has been turned around when switching the repo. I "lost" zigbee2mqttassistant and three of my custom services implemented as documented on the wiki here.

I'd wish there was better documentation on the new repo for migration if the intention really is to be a replacement...

Thanks, I've read both. First lead me to the current state with zigbee2mqttassistant (and maybe also Blynk?) disappearing. I assume the support was found faulty and dropped?

The custom service mechanism is quite different but I guess I'll figure it out. Although it's sadly starting to sound simpler to just install all the apps manually. I kind of preferred having each on their own folder though (easy to copy to other Raspis) but I think I'll give it a shot now after getting this far already. 🙂

What's the docker-compose you're trying to add in for the custom services? It should just be copy paste, but I can help create the docker-compose stuff if not (just need to see the dockerfiles and the command you run it with). The instructions are long, only because it goes through the 2 examples thoroughly. It's actually much more flexible in the new way (why I did it).

Not sure what you mean by adding their own folders though, like the new way supports what the old one did. It's just telling IOTstack about the custom services has changed. If I missed anything, happy to add it in though!

I believe there is a PR for zigbee2mqttassistant on the new repo already, but we are just doing some final checks and documentation for it.

I should mention that I've been creating the new menu system for IOTstack, and I do see Blynk and others in there. You can see some screenshots of it in: SensorsIot#77

Thanks @Slyke, you're being very kind. I haven't yet tried. To be honest I had some strange issues with Docker (using the old repo) and had to rollback to my old Odroid C2 based system after several evenings of setting up my new Raspberry Pi 4 based setup.

I was getting what it seems like continuous virtual network interface binds/unbinds on syslog and the load average was between 20-30. Until I switched to ethernet connection the RPi even dropped offline a couple of times. It was still on but had lost the WiFi interface sometime. Only found a brief useless mention on this from RPi forums.

I only had 5 of the Docker services setup with no basically no usage. After I added a non-docker installation of Node-RED with my old flows (using mosquito from the Docker stack), things started falling apart. I came to this repo to see if anyone has experienced anything similar as Google didn't help, only tl find this notice. I then updated the repo and "lost" half of what I had configured so far, so it kind of took away my motivation for a while as I realised I had no idea what is happening vs. if I'd just manually install everything. 🙂

I'll get back to this when I've got a suitable moment. Thanks again!
