The macOS x64 DMG job failed twice in a row today on `xcrun stapler staple` with error 68 ("The network connection was lost" on Apple's CloudKit ticket lookup), on the same runner image that passed yesterday. Since `Publish GitHub release` needs every build job, one dropped connection blocks the whole release.

The staple step now retries up to five times, 30 s apart.

Seen in run 40874803001 (attempts 1 and 2).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Reliability
    • macOS disk image notarization stapling retries up to five times, with a 30-second pause between attempts. If all attempts fail, the release process reports failure. The operation also has a 10-minute time limit, ensuring it does not continue indefinitely. These changes provide a clear outcome for notarization stapling during release packaging.

Explanation

The title names the change: a CI retry for the macOS DMG stapling step after a dropped connection. It is specific to the single change in the diff, which adds up to five stapling attempts 30 seconds apart. It follows the conventional commit prefix style.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description states the problem: the macOS x64 DMG job failed twice on xcrun stapler staple with error 68 on the same runner image that passed the day before. It explains the impact, since Publish GitHub release needs every build job. It states the fix, a retry up to five times with 30 seconds between attempts, and cites the failing run (40874803001). It does not fill in the template's Related issue section (Fixes # is left blank), does not mark the Type of change, Release impact, or Desktop impact checkboxes, and has no Screenshots or Testing section. The Summary is present in substance but not under the template heading.

Resolution

Add the missing template sections and complete them. Under Related issue, either replace 'Fixes #' with the issue number or remove the placeholder if no issue exists. Check the applicable boxes under Type of change (likely Bug fix), Release impact (likely No release note needed or Patch), and Desktop impact (macOS and Installer / packaging, or whichever applies). Add a Testing section that says how the retry was verified, or state that it was not tested locally. Optionally add a Summary heading above the existing description text and note that the Screenshots section is not applicable.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | 💤 Low value

Skip the 30-second sleep after the final failed staple attempt.

After the fifth failure, the loop still prints "retrying in 30 s" and sleeps for 30 seconds. It then exits with status 1. No retry follows. The release job reports failure 30 seconds later than necessary, and the log message says a retry will happen when none will.

Update the staple retry loop so its failure message and 30-second sleep run only
when another attempt remains. Skip both after the fifth failed attempt, then
preserve the existing exit status and failure behavior.
