| ## Before You Change Anything | ||
| 1. Read `pom.xml` or `build.gradle(.kts)` to find the Quarkus version (`quarkus.platform.version`), the Java version and the build tool. Keep them unless the user asks for an upgrade. | ||
| 2. Check which REST stack the project uses: Quarkus REST (`quarkus-rest*`) or RESTEasy Classic (`quarkus-resteasy*`). They cannot be mixed. Keep the existing one. |
| - Add features through extensions (`./mvnw quarkus:add-extension -Dextensions=...` or `quarkus extension add`) instead of plain library dependencies, so that build-time processing and native support work. | ||
| - For new projects, use Quarkus REST with `quarkus-rest-jackson`, and target Java 21 or later. | ||
| - Use `./mvnw quarkus:dev` for development and rely on live reload and continuous testing. |
| - Use constructor or field injection of beans with `@ApplicationScoped`, and keep CDI beans free of per-request state. | ||
| - Bind configuration with `@ConfigMapping` interfaces and validate it. Use profiles (`%dev`, `%test`, `%prod`) for environment differences, and keep secrets out of the repository. | ||
| - Use DTOs (records) at the API boundary, Bean Validation for input, and exception mappers for consistent error responses. | ||
| - Keep transactions at the service layer with `@Transactional`. Do not call blocking code on the event loop; use `@Blocking`, virtual threads (`@RunOnVirtualThread`) or reactive APIs. |
| - Prefer `@QuarkusTest` with REST Assured for behavior tests, and use Dev Services so that databases and brokers start without configuration. | ||
| - Mock with `@InjectMock` only where a real collaborator is impractical. | ||
| - Use `@QuarkusIntegrationTest` to verify the packaged application, including the native executable. | ||
| - Run the tests (`./mvnw test` or `./gradlew test`) after each change and report the result. |
| ### Native and containers | ||
| - Build native with `-Dnative` (add `-Dquarkus.native.container-build=true` when GraalVM is not installed locally). |
