gomoritz/README.md

Hi, I'm Moritz. I build software, and small companies.

studypilot.app  ·  LinkedIn

I'm a software engineer from Nuremberg, Germany. Most of my time goes into studypilot, the app for students that I co-founded while I was still one myself. Alongside that I study computer science at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and work as a fullstack developer at insert effect.

Now

  • studypilot · Co-founder, responsible for everything technical: architecture, apps, backend, infrastructure and releases. An all-in-one app for school with timetable, grades, homework, notes and more on iOS, Android, macOS and Windows. It started in a classroom during the pandemic, and today whole schools plug their systems into it. Along the way we got third place at the didacta Start-up Award and learned a lot about building software for schools.
  • insert effect · Working student, fullstack. Web apps and mobile apps for everyone.
  • FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg · B.Sc. Computer Science, focusing on artificial intelligence.

Stack

TypeScript, React, Node.js, Electron, Flutter, Kubernetes, Docker, RabbitMQ, Swift, Kotlin, Java, Python

TypeScript from end to end: React in the browser, Node.js on the server, Electron and Capacitor for desktop and mobile. I run the infrastructure myself on Kubernetes at Hetzner. I like building software together with coding agents, and keeping our own servers boring and reliable.

Then

I started software development with Java as a kid because I wanted to change how Minecraft looked. That grew into Dragonfly, a Minecraft client with its own launcher, injection system and a Kotlin backend, which a few friends and I built and shipped. It was my first project with real users, and many habits I still have come from that time.

Off the clock

When something in my life bugs me, I usually end up writing a tool for it: gym-bro for tracking my workouts, spotify-composer for merging playlists by swiping through songs. A few of the smaller ones are public in my repositories.
