Mac

Overview

  1. Extract PlexConnect
  2. Create Certificates and install them on the AppleTV and PlexConnect server
  3. Run PlexConnect
  4. Configure and test your AppleTV

Guide

  1. Extract the PlexConnect archive you [downloaded earlier] (https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/archive/master.zip). We recommend extracting the folder, then dragging the extracted folder to "Applications".

  2. Generate the SSL Certificates by following the [Mac Certificate Guide] (https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Install-Guide-Mac-Certificates).

  3. Run PlexConnect by first opening a terminal window (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal), then type the following:

sudo "/Applications/PlexConnect-master/PlexConnect.py"

Provide your Administrator password to complete PlexConnect startup.

You should now see messages like these in the terminal window: PlexConnect Terminal Write down the IP_Self: ###.###.###.### address as you will need it for the next step.

You can now minimize the Terminal window.

For manual configuration and advanced features see the [Advanced Settings page.] (https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Settings-for-advanced-use-and-troubleshooting)

  1. Configure the AppleTV for PlexConnect

Post Install

On OSX you can run PlexConnect as a daemon, which will automatically start on boot and run as a background process.

  1. First, stop the running instance of PlexConnect if you have one open (CTRL-C)
  2. Open a terminal window (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal), then type the following:

sudo "./Applications/PlexConnect-master/support/OSX/install.bash"

Provide your Administrator password to complete PlexConnect startup. This assumes you copied the PlexConnect-master folder to the /Applications folder when you installed PlexConnect.

This will install a PlexConnect plist in /Library/LaunchDaemon (for the forthcoming boots) and start the PlexConnect daemon

####Additional Commands

  • sudo ./remove.bash will shut down the daemon and uninstall it - (removes the plist).
  • launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemon/com/plex/plexconnect.com will unload or stop the service for this boot.
  • launchctl load /Library/LaunchDaemon/com/plex/plexconnect.com will restart the process.
  • launchctl list | grep com.plex.plexconnect.com indicates whether the process is running (first number - PID) and (if neccessary) an error number.
